handa eða fyrir

Postby jani211 » 2013-11-10, 10:17

Hvar er mismunurinn á milli "handa þér" og "fyrir þig"?
Ég fann á netinu "hvað keyptir þú síðast handa þér eða fyrir þig?", svo þar á að vera mismunur. Hvenær notar ég hvaða?

Where is the difference between "handa þér" and "fyrir þig" in Icelandic?
How do I use it?

Takk fyrir hjálpina!
Jani

I think that when it's a physical object that is for someone, it's "handa", and it's "fyrir" when it's an action, e.g. doing something on someone's behalf.

"Ég keypti bók handa þér." = I bought a book for you, as in I bought a book to give to you.
"Ég keypti bók fyrir þig." = I bought a book for you, as in I bought the book so you wouldn't have to do it.
