Help to translate a couple of words?

Postby Carrero » 2007-11-15, 15:05

Hi pals, I'm trying to translate a chemical protocol, which is in Danish, and I have some difficulties. There are a pair of words that I just cannot find in the dictionary or guess what they mean.

Could anybody help me?

1) ombukke(the sentence says: Papiret ombukkes 6 cm fra øverste kant og anbringes i kromatografitanken i kølerum).

2) Husk at tegen løbene ved siden af også, så man kan se dem- når selve løbsbanen er klippet ud. Remember... what? "at" means "to" before the infinitive, or "that" as a relative... but as far as I know, the danish invinitive ends with -e, not -en... What does then "tegen" mean? Would the rest this mean?: remember to ??? the flows by the other side too (?)

3) Prøven = 1 ml uoprenset [1,5-14C] glutaryl-CoA sættes på søjlen idet søjlens øverste slange stikkes ned i prøveglasset og slange + glas hæves i vejret, så prøven løber langsomt ind på søjlen - What does "idet" mean? I can't find it anywhere. And now, "hæves i vejret"?? As far as I know, "vejr" means "weather".

That's all. I would be very thankful if anyone could help me to clarify this :-)

1)
"Papiret ombukkes 6 cm fra øverste kant..."
"The paper is fold down 6 cm from the upper edge..."

2)
"Husk at tegen ..."
"Husk at tegne ..." <- corrected
"Remember to draw ..."

3)
"... på søjlen idet søjlens øverste slange ..."
"... on the pillar as the pillars upper tube ..."

"... og slange + glas hæves i vejret"
"... and the tube + glass is raised in the air"

In the second (2)) I think it's an error, it should not say "tegen," but "tegne." Personally, I've never heard about the word "tegen," and except for that, "tegne" would fit in fine.
I'm not sure about the one with "idet." "idet" has several meanings, depending on the context, but I think the "as" would fit fine for that sentence particular.

Alt er i orden, men der er bare en lille grammatikfejl i din engelske oversættelse:

Alt er í lagi, men ein lítil villa hevur sníkt seg inn í ensku umsetingina hjá tær:

Everything's all right, except that there's a small error in your English translation:

Tusind tak, Mulder-21. Jeg er ikke super til engelsk, så jeg er kun glad for, at der er nogle der gider at rette lidt på mig! :-)
