Very funny, but I've seen it a couple of times already ;)

-Yesterday I bought a cd by a Swedish musician. Ulf Landell - now, he's a mumbler. Even my friend didn't realize it was a foriegn language being sung. He just assumed it was Tom Waits. Mr. Landell is one Swede who can't rightly mock the Danes and their language.
If a tree falls in the woods
And no-one's there to hear
...the man under it scream
Is he really hurt?
And did he deserve it?

In fact, you're to a large extent correct here. Especially young people in Southern and Central Sweden speak in a mumbling manner. As a consequence, a demand for subtitling of Swedish speaking TV has appeared. You simply can't hear what some of the actors in especially dramas are saying.
But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright Brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.

Well even in Arcimedes time the elders complained about the language the youngsters. It like an important phase in the human life to rebel against your parents, etc though rebellious teenage language indeed has become popular lately probably due to lame teachers and media.

Besides a lot of geatish dialects have always (at least the last 100 years) been "ootyydli" and "gröytu".

(ŕ="skånskt r", ḍ="rd-ljudet", ł="tjockt l")

"Otydlia"? "Grötia"? We don't speak very mumbling from what I know, it's just that the ones in the rest of the country can't spell, and they haven't any grammar to speak of either :P
Swedish (sv) native; English (en) good; Norwegian (no) read fluently, understand well, speak badly; Danish (dk) read fluently, understand badly, can't speak; Faroese (fo) read some, understand a bit, speak a few sentences; German (de) French (fr) Spanish (es) forgetting; heritage language, want to understand and speak but can't.

Hej,

Know some geatic dialects are nice, but they are hard to understand when they begin to sound like certain actors in swedish movies.
