tener plus que plus infinitive

Postby ich » 2017-05-16, 17:54

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone here could tell me how to form questions properly using the expression "tener" + "que" + infinitive.
I would like to learn how to say such a question as: "Why does Sergio and I have to go to the store?
My guess is: ¿Por qué tenemos Sergio y yo que ir a la tienda? but that doesn't sound quite right. Is the only option here something like: ¿Por qué tenemos que ir Sergio y yo?
¡Gracias por la ayuda!

My guess would have been "por qué tenemos que ir Sergio y yo".

I found Google entries beginning with "Por qué tengo que usar XYZ" = Why do I have to use XYZ.

You would not put a name in between "tener" and "que" (*¿Por qué tenemos Sergio y yo que ir a la tienda?) but it is possible to say:
-Jhumpa Lahiri
