Spanish Pretérito Imperfecto and French L'Imparfait - is there any difference?

I'm struggling with the Spanish pretérito imperfecto tense at the moment... Since I know French it'd be much easier to compare French l'imparfait with pretérito imperfecto.

So can anyone tell me whether pretérito imperfecto has any differences in usage in comparison to l'imparfait?

They're very, very similar, and I can't think of a difference between them.

(I mean, outside of unreal conditional clauses, since in Spanish you use the subjunctive imperfect instead of the indicative imperfect: si j'avais le temps je le ferais - si tuviera tiempo yo lo haría (not *si tenía).)

Much agreed. I don't really have any issue seeing the Spanish and Catalan imperfects as the same things as the French one. After all, they're all descendants of the Latin imperfect.
