Question about building vocabulary

Hi,
I wanted to ask, I am trying to build my Latvian vocabulary and I want to know if there are any good ways to do that. I am looking at Latvian song lyrics, poems, books and taking the translations from those into google translate, so I can have somewhat of an understanding, if there are any ways, please let me know. Thank you for your time and patience, as it is very much appreciated.
