Language support jobs in Riga

Postby Levo » 2016-04-25, 10:08

Sveiki!
Sorry to bombard the forum with such questions, but if I post it elsewhere, no Latvians will ever find it :-)

How much do you think one can earn with a language-support job in a shared service centre or other companies in Riga?
Let's say with Hungarian.

Customer service specialist with Hungarian language and the like...
Thank you! Paldies!

If you speak English and Scandinavian languages, you can expect to earn €600-€700 (take home pay) after a couple of years in accounting at a shared service center.

No idea about Hungarian.

Thank you Mak!
600-700? That bad? :? That's low even compared to Hungary. That was a fresh starter's salary over here 5 years ago.

Salaries over here are low also, but if something is valued, then foreign language knowledge is at least. With rare languages a fresher could earn 600€ in 2012.
With 1-2 years experience an acquaintance I know changed working place three years ago with a salary of 1030€, with a Scandinavian language in customer service.

Other than that, salaries are pretty low here too. If there is some difference, it is that you cannot download datas about salaries that easily in Hungary :-)

If we are already here, how much do you feel that the economy is really getting better? That there seem to be fields in the economy where Latvia is becoming successful?

I'm in IT and I can't complain. Dunno about other fields.

If you can code, starting salary can be €1300 before tax which is €900 after tax.

If you can't code, there's a company that will pay you min wage (€400) while they help you learn to code :D

Cool, that's better compared to us (here in Transylvania).

Was expecting it given the average salaries' map: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_E ... erage_wage

Here for a newbie (first time job) in IT the starting salary is usually like €600-700 after taxation.
Which is comfortable given the local prices.

Surely there are extra requirements that you do something besides coding? :hmm:

Not really. There's a shortage of (good) developers so they're willing to take university students and train them.
