Arabic poetry

This is thread to get acquainted with Arabic poetry. If you want to share a poem that you like, please you can post it here. I don’t know many Arab poets myself, so this will be an opportunity to learn more about them. It also would be great if you wanted to share some of the circumstances in which the poem was written, or about the poet himself, if you know about him. We even could discuss the meaning.

I post a poem of a Palestinian writer that I discovered yesterday. His name is محمود درويش

You might be interested in a YouTube channel called Lisan Arabi if you haven't seen it already. It has some Arabic poetry with the original words and a translation into English.

This is a pre-Islamic Arabic poem, courtesy of Lisan Arabi, complete with full vowel marking:

The video description includes this rather fascinating information about its author:
Antra Ibn Shaddad Alabsi is one of the most famous pre-islamic warrior-poets whose reputation survived till our present day not only because of his distinguished poetry but also because of his unique life story. Antara was of a mixed birth. He was born to an Arab father but his mother was an Abyssinian slave from whom Antara inherited his black skin. He was called the ‘ crow of Arabs’ [ghourab alarab] غُرابُ العرب . Antara grew up as a slave in his tribe as was the tradition when a female slave gave birth to son. Later, he was freed by his father when his fighting skills were needed to defend his tribe. His father asked him to fight with the tribe’s fighters. He agreed after his father promised to free him. He is also known as one of the poets of “Al-Muʿallaqāt” معلقات (the hung poems).

This is apparently part of a qasida by the late Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani called الممثلون (The Actors), unfortunately with not very good acoustics:

From another channel, this is Qabbani reciting some of his own poetry with subtitles in English:

Thanks, this is awesome! :D I am going to take a closer look.

Yesterday I discovered three new poets, one Tunisian, Abu Al Qasim Al Shabbi, one Egyptian, Salah Jahin, and one Palestinian, but also from Egypt, Tamim AlBarghouti.

No problem and thank you! :)

This is a poem by Ibn al-Yayyab, a 13th- to 14th-century poet from the Emirate of Granada (modern-day Andalusia):

برجٌ عظيمُ الشأنِ في الأبراجِ قد باهت الحمراءُ منه بتـاجِ
قلهرة ظهرت لنا واستبطنت قصرًا يضيء بنوره الوهاجِ
فيها بدائعُ صنعةٍ قد نوظرت نسبـًا من الأفرادِ والأزواجِ
من آل سعدٍ من بني نصرٍ ومَن نصروا وآوَوا صاحبَ المعراجِ

And these are parts of a recitation of a poem called Midadi by the 19th-century Senegalese poet and Sufi saint and religious leader Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba with subtitles in French:
