يعتقل؟

Postby bogororo » 2005-04-10, 20:37

Hi, I was trying to translate a news headline from AlJazeera today and I could not find this verb in the dictionary. Searching Google provided lots of hits, though so I guess this is something linked with grammar:
تعتقل

Thanks in advance!

That looks like a stem 8 verb to me, root: ع ق ل

Looking it up in my dictionary gives me: to arrest

Thanks a lot!

By the way, do you happen to know how could I type Arabic text cursively in Mozzila Firefox? I mean, I can type a word from right to left but the next word comes at the right of the former. Anyone else having this problem?

Er, late again?

Well, the root of that verb isn't عقل but it's اعتقل = I'taqala = To arrest.

Hello,

The verb اعتقل -- i3ta9ala means to arrest.
For the third singular prounoun, it's يعتقل -- ya3ta9elu.
And the noun is:اعتقال -- i3ti9al

And none of these have the hamza ء by the way.

I hope I am not misusing those nominations.
