How many stories do you have left, Eskandar? Can we start قصص النبيين already? :)

I read first 3 stories from قصص النبيين:
بائع الأصنام - Put Satıcısı
ولد آزر - Azer'in Oğlu
نصيحة إبراهيم - İbrahim'in Nasihati

I am taking the Turkish names from the Turkish translation of my book and putting them here just for fun.

The first part of the book is telling the story of Prophet Ibrahim. Reading it brings back memories of my trip to Urfa, which is the birthplace of Ibrahim, the city Ur, often associated with.

Well, technically, I finished my Persian first-grade reader first. That's not as impressive, though, because I started reading it when I was like...seven? Plus I've already read it before anyway, probably several times; I just wanted to keep track of all the new words in it.

Me, too! I also read and listened to part 4 of الأسد والثور. Yay, I'm finally halfway through that one story! :silly:

I read it as "because of what he heard of its powerful sound" but it would make more sense to me if it was لأجل ما سمع من صوته العظيم . It's a shame we don't have more advanced Arabic learners/speakers around anymore to clarify for us.

Hey I now know what it is. It's called "False idafa" or "Adjective idafa":

I didn’t know, but it seems to be like four levels of Arabic studying, and they are called: “nahw, sarf, balagha and adab” :hmm:

These are traditional areas of study in the Islamic seminary: na7w (syntax), Sarf (morphology), balaagha (rhetoric) and adab (belles lettres). They are needed for mastering literary or religious studies, but some might be unnecessary otherwise.

I was curious about it, so I looked for قصص النبيين، and I found that in fact it is easy to read, so now I am reading it also  The other story you mentioned, I didn’t find it.

الأسد والثور is an eight-part story that comes from Munther A. Younes's version of Kalila wa Dimna (it's one of the stories in that book). :) It's a little harder, but I've been using Aratools with it since voron mentioned it earlier in this thread.

For قصص النبيين, just in case you didn't know, there's also a vocabulary list that eskandar linked to once.

Sure, I can try, at least! Maybe I'll finally finish الأسد والثور. (Isn't it ironic that I'm in Taiwan yet the languages I read in are Persian and Arabic)?

Yay, glad you guys are down!

Saim wrote:What text should we read?

I need to strengthen my Arabic morphology skills, so I'd like to work through this lecture series on ṣarf and follow along with the text it uses (linked in video description). But if that seems too boring I'm open to anything either of you suggest. We could alternate choosing news articles for example, as I think we did for a bit in the Urdu study group.
