Liked this one a lot. In MSA, but without case endings (unusual as I feel poetry in standard Arabic is usually pronounced with all the case endings, including in music), by a Tunisian singer.

Love both of the above!

I've probably posted these Iraqi songs before, but I can't stop singing them :rotfl:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8lT2JGFNrs

Just try not to catch yourself singing "Allah Allah Allah Allah weyah!" all day now

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUUvj9CxUYU

Now try not to sing "7ali 7ali 7ali 7ali, 7es b7ali yalghali, ana b3dak 3adam 7ali :D

You know, these songs really help me put into practice all the stuff I learned studying the Iraqi dialect. I have lots of Iraqi friends, but all of them are either Jews or Assyrians - so speak Hebrew or Assyrian. The few I know who do speak Iraqi Arabic are usually also Assyrians and they prefer to speak Sureth  so I'll probably never get to practice :ohwell:

Hehe

I do think the Arabic music scene has gone downhill since the Arab Spring, sadly. The quality of music just really isn't there :nope:

Do we have any good new stuff?

Depends on your taste, maybe. I think there's been an explosion of really cool Arabic music in the years since the Arab spring, especially in alternative genres. For really great pop music though, maybe you're right, I don't know.

Here's an Egyptian one I like from the last couple of years

Chadian Arabic is a lingua franca in Chad and is spoken natively by over one million people, so there are a lot of songs in Chadian Arabic. Since French is co-official with Arabic in Chad, there are also a lot of songs that are in both Chadian Arabic and French. Here's one sample of Chadian Arabic music (sorry about the poor audio and video quality):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KL-qXAs_LE
This is a political song, in praise of the current prime minister (also with pretty bad video, sorry again!). AFAICT it's entirely in Chadian Arabic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7izbkFO6WI
This is a song called "Khalou ha Tegiri" by Chadian singer Yasmine, made with support from the UNFPA:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dE8s_LzJHrg
And this is an old clip of a song performed by another Chadian singer named Alhadji Ahmat Pécos, courtesy of Télé Tchad:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNMhP0-3ZkM
There are also a few songs from Afghanistan in Arabic! I'm not sure which variety exactly they're in. I think these two may both be in MSA. The first seems to be dedicated to the army specifically, and all the video footage in the second seems to be of a meeting between Hamid Karzai and whoever the leader of the UAE is:

Chadian Arabic is so unusual. I watched a movie from Chad once, and what really struck me was how it just didn't sound like Arabic. Wikipedia confirms that they don't use ح or ع at all.

I agree that it's a very different variety of Arabic (that's what I love about it! :D), but do you really think it lacks pharyngeals altogether? Have you by any chance seen this video series (that's the first video in the series)? To me, it sounds like it does have ح at least. On the other hand, I can't make any claims as to the accuracy of the video, and from what I've seen written about Chadian Arabic so far, it might also be possible that some speakers have some pharyngeals and others have none at all. It's also possible that I just have shitty ears. :P

EDIT: While I'm at it, maybe I'll just go ahead and include two more songs. :P These are mystery songs! I can't tell which variety of Arabic each is in.

This one is from a YouTube channel that otherwise mostly has Hazaragi songs. Sorry for the poor quality of the video again. I have no idea what variety it's in (maybe Egyptian??):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVsxFo9sRK4
This one is about a shepherd, apparently (named Kumar, so presumably an Indian immigrant), who has a bad/abusive sponsor but then gets a better one. I think it might be from Saudi Arabia? (There seem to be a lot of Arabic songs in Saudi Arabia about immigrants being mistreated by their sponsors!). I'm not sure:

Yep, MSA.

As for Chadian phonology, the video series you linked to confirms that they lack the pharyngeals, even including ع ! See here.

Definitely not Egyptian :D Not sure exactly what it is but both the dialect and the style of music sound Khaleeji to me. The video gives a telephone number at the very end in Yemen; maybe it's Yemeni?

Yep, sounds Saudi to me, sung in the partially broken Saudi Arabic of desi immigrants there.

I'm quite sure that this is the Omani dialect.

I have only heard it a few times from my Emirati friends of Omani background, but it made an impression - maybe because non-Omani Emiratis love to mock it :D

I will double check with my Omani friend and get back to you guys later.

I'm not even really sure about this one, but I'd hazard a guess and agree with you that it is Saudi.

For some reason I get a Hejazi vibe - can't explain why other than a few words, though.

Update:

My Saudi friend said it’s most likely Omani but sounded a little Yemeni too.

My Emirati friend of Omani background said it sounds more Yemeni but also maybe Omani.

I think I need to play them more audio to be sure. The reason I guess Omani is because of the slightly comedic sound and the fact that I understand things - usually in Yemeni I understand 0, but maybe this is an “easier” dialect 😄

I had exactly the same thought! Usually I understand basically nothing in Yemeni, but this was much more understandable.
