I'm looking for a book to learn Levantine Arabic

Postby Strigo » 2008-11-26, 8:51

Hi,

I read a recommendation on a book but someone said it doesn't include translations.
Do you know a good book for learning Arabic? (specially Levantine)
I have interest in the middle east that's why I picked Levantine but should I learn the standard form first?

http://www.syrianarabic.com/

you can download the first three chapters for free there. They once had the whole book for free download, so I have it with the mp3 files if you're interested.

And I think you should study at least some standard Arabic before a dialect, because it will help you a lot to understand how the language works.

Here are some suggestions I found interesting:
Alif Baa

Beginner's Arabic Script

Elementary Modern Standard Arabic

And a couple of online sources:
http://i-cias.com/babel/arabic/index.htm

http://www.madinaharabic.com/index.htm

Hopefully it helps =)

www.syrianarabic.com, but they don't have the full book or mp3 files for free download anymore.

Sent you a PM instead.

Some people seem to like Eastern Arabic by Rice and Sa'id. I have it but personally don't care for it much. It doesn't have any Arabic script in it at all.

If you want to learn Arabic, I suggest that you buy the book listed below. You can buy the book on Amazon. It is the best book for learning Levantine Arabic.

Book Name: The Most 101 Used Verbs in Spoken Arabic: Jordan & Palestine (3rd Edition)
Author: Fridrik E. Tiedemann Jr.
