(...) Quan dic que no sóc àrab sinó bereber, els catalans em comprenen, però els castellans no entenen això.""

E}{pugnator wrote:6. L'any passat anem conèixer l'Anna.

pa, at the book Teach Yourself Catalan, the present tense for 'anar' and the verbal forms used in the "vaig+infinitive" constructions are slightly different, i guess the difference is in the 1st and 2nd plural persons, they're not "anem" and "aneu", i think, they start with v, too. Do you know about this issue? I forgot how it was actually.

1. One thing is the verb anar (to go): vaig, vas, va, anem, aneu, van.
2. Another one is the past form of any verb, which is formed with verb anar, but it changes some forms: vaig, vas, va, vam, vau, van (+ verb in infinitive).

I don't know what the book says, but 'anem conèixer' is not correct... not even from any different dialect, it doesn't exist. The correct form would be 'vam conèixer'

Pa, at this lesson (page 8, i think), where you explain this past construction, you use the verb "anar" in its present form (read above), and not those forms that change (and that's what confused me).

So, when making the past I should use "vam" and "vau", and not "anem" and "aneu", right?

Although it would sound a bit artificial, you could also say 'el cotxe d'ell', in case the meaning could be tricky.
