გაფუჭებული ტელეფონი - Game

Postby ninkaakanino » 2009-01-22, 20:46

გაფუჭებული ტელეფონი (a broken telephone) - is a kind of an old georgian child game. First player comes up with a word (in his/her mind) and whispers it to the person sitting next, and the word is forwarded only by whispering to each player in a row. in the end, it is almost always a new word, because on the long way of being whispered on, it gets misunderstood and changed. We couldn't possibly play it here though.

so my idea was, let's change its concept a bit and instead ask quesions to the member below, but only in Georgian! So, answer the question, ask your own and so on.. have fun.

Here is my first question:

Q: რომელია შენი საყვარელი წიგნი?
If you really want something in life you have to work for it. Now quiet, they're about to announce the lottery numbers. (H.S.)

A slight correction:
1) you could perfectly say: "ძნელი იქნებოდა მხოლოდ ერთი წიგნის გამორჩევა" without adding "ეს" in the beginning. Because in this sentence "choosing .. a book" is a already a subject :)
2) რა არის იმ ჩიტის სახელი, რომელიც... (which) რომ is like a "that" conjunction. eg, he told me that...

პასუხი: ეს ბერძნული ფრინველი უნდა იყოს, Alkionides Meres, შემთხვევით ვიპოვე ეს სურათი ინტერნეტში და მომეწონა. :) ქართულად არ ვიცი რა ჰქვია.

კითხვა: ბედნიერი ხარ?

P.S. i think this game won't function here properly, because of lack of participants. :hmm:

არაფერს. as for your sentence about that lion. in that case "რომ" signifies - when (who said georgian was not difficult? :dimwit: ) a paraphrase would be "ლომი როცა გაიზარდა, დაიწყო ნადირობა... "

P.S. georgian is a tricky language and there is not always one to one translation. so when you ask something, please use it in a context, so that i know which უნდა იყოს you mean exactly. same goes for "must have been" - you mean it in the past? so plz make your question more clear. and moreover, put any extra grammar questions into Georgian Grammar thread please :ohwell:

მე არა, ეს ერთ ქართველს კარგად გამოსდის, მე ის ფრაზა ერთ ქართულ ფორუმზე ვიპოვე, ჩემი თავისი ფრაზა უარესი (მაგრამ მხოლოდ გრამატიკულად!) იყო.

The second sentence means letterally: I also agree (will agree?) with you about the transience of happiness? Is გ-ე-თანხმ-ები Passive Voice of Present Tense or maybe it is Future Tense? :?:

it is actually active voice. but i don't want to confuse you. i don't know what you are reading about georgian, the terms may vary, esp. when it comes to georgian. so no idea why you call it passive. it's a present tense.

Well, my book says that the prefix ე is characteristic of the objective and directive versions of passive/neutral verbs in the present tense (and is therefore equivalent to the active-voice prefixes უ/ი and ა, respectively), here is an example: გიცოდებ (active voice), მეცოდები (passive voice).

As for the future tense, it seems to be a bit tricky for some verbs, I mean the static ones, since their future forms look very similar grammatically to present-tense passive verbs, confer:
გ-ე-თანხმ-ები (present tense) and მო-გ-ე-წონ-ები (future tense), or an even more confusing example გ-ე-თამაშ-ები (future tense)… So I’m a little nervous every time I see such verbs :para:

oh boy!! i never looked at such verbs this way before, maybe because i am a native speaker and as a native we learn georgian grammar from another perspective. so i can't help here. your book is probably very right. now that you mentioned i also noticed that present and future of such verbs seem tricky. and the trick is mainly in prefixes (or time adverbs):

გეთანხმები (present) - დაგეთანხმები (future, but also used as saying like ok, i'll agree, or i agree, not much difference) except, be careful, when you use time adverbs.

გეთამაშები - გეთამაშები (the same) (usually for future we use time adverbs and it is easy to get it from the context)

Lol, the question was about the kingfisher names, maybe it’s the verb გიყვარს that caused you to think of caviar  I had realized my mistake before I could see your answer, yet it was too late (look at the time that I edited my previous post and you posted yours). Be that as it may, but the question still needs to be answered  (BTW, the game is turning to its original meaning reflected in the name :) )

არცერთზე არ ვგიჯდები = I won’t say no to (reject) either (?) What is the infinitive form here, I failed to find the verb in my dictionaries… :hmm:

I thought it to be the other way round, maybe it’s because there are many highland areas in your native country. So I wonder: საქართველოს რომელ კუთხეში ცხოვრობდი?

საჭმელების ჭამა უფრო მიყვარს. ვერ ვიტყვი, რომელია ჩენი საყვარელი საჭმელი (see my answer about my favourite book), თითქმის ყველას ვჭამ.

yes then it is ok. იყრება from - დაყრა, ჩამოყრა - to fall down. in geo we literally say - "snow comes" - თოვლი მოდის, ან თოვს it snows (from თოვა)

people wake up here გაიღვიძეთ!
apparently the game was too difficult. the similar game at german forum seems muuuch more successful. well, we could then write everyday things in english (if not in georgian) just to keep some spirit of communucation :hmm:

so? what is everybody up to? (if not necessarily learning Georgian)

მართლაც. ვითამაშებდი, მაგრამ ეს თამაში ჩემთვის მეტისმეტად ძნელია. ამჟამად საშუალი ზმნების სწავლამდე ვარ.

(I hope that made at least a little sense )

Here, I've got one:

ხომ ქართული ენა არის ყველაზე ძნელი ენა, რომელიც შემისწავლია?
(Meant to say: Is Georgian the most difficult language you have studied?)

I'd say like this
არის თუ არა ქართული ყველაზე რთული ენა რომელიც შეგისწავლია?

გმადლობთ. ქართული არის თქვენი მშობლიური ენა?
