Loretta young silks

Postby ZombiekE » 2005-09-27, 21:26

What are loretta young silks?

What do the words in bold mean?

SNEAKER PIMPS - LORETTA YOUNG SILKS

Got answers for everyone, endless excuses
Not habit for anyone, cos I'm trying to break your click-track heart
Seen a vision of perfect grace, airbrushed and lifeless
All contempt and aftertaste it's like I'm waiting for the scars to heal

You're so Loretta young silks, fashioning your self-escape
You're so Loretta young silks, trading on your superwaif
All style before content, using me as bait
You're so Loretta young silks, swapping your love for hate

Soft focus for full appeal, pictured as flawless
No context for self-esteem, I'd be pushed to give you love on that
As far as the eye can see : too much perfection
Pure substance for wannabes, keeps you beating to a click-track heart

You're so Loretta young silks, fashioning your self-escape
You're so Loretta young silks, trading on your superwaif
All style before content, using me as bait
You're so Loretta young silks, swapping your love for hate

You're so Loretta young silks, fashioning your self-escape
You're so Loretta young silks, trading on your superwaif

You're so Loretta young silks, swapping your love for hate
You're so Loretta young silks, swapping your love for hate

Is "superwaif" superwave? Because waif has another meaning.

Now, to have some fun, this is what someone heard in this song:

SNEAKER PIMPS - LORETTA YOUNG SILKS

Got answers for everyone, endless excuses
Not happy for anyone, cos I’m trying to break your click-track heart
Seen a vision of perfect grace, airbrushed and lifeless
All contempt and aftertaste it’s like I’m waiting for the scars to heal

You sell loretta young silks, fashioning yourself as gay
You sell loretta young silks, trading on your super wave
All style before content, using me as bait
You sell loretta young silks, swapping your love for hate

Soft focus for full appeal, pictured as flawless
No contest for self esteem, was that be pushed to give your love on that
As far as the eye can see : too much perfection
Pure substance for wannabes, keeps you beating to a click-track heart

You sell loretta young silks, fashioning yourself as gay
You sell loretta young silks, trading on your super wave
All style before content, using me as bait
You sell loretta young silks, swapping your love for hate

I think the first version is the right one (except for the superwaif thing), but I'm not sure about the P in escape when I listen to the song so "gay" could be possible too.

I think have some kind of slight idea about what "loretta young silks" means, but I would like to have a version from a native speaker.

Another question, why does the singer say "Lorera" instead of "Loretta". I know this is a bit like the different pronunciations of "better" or "matter" but these guys are from Reading, England. Is it used over there too? Is this something they only use for songs? I remember my Irish lecturer used this sometimes. I thought it was something mostly present in North America.

I found this:
