A French expression...

Postby Amy » 2005-09-01, 18:19

Hello everybody ^^

First of all, I would like to say I'm sorry if I'm not in the right place for that...

Well, I would like, if possible of course, the translation of a French expression : Vivre d'amour et d'eau fraîche.

In fact, I know perfectly what this expression means and I can translate it too. I thought there was maybe an equivalent expression in English...

Thanks in advance for your answers, even if there are none XD (l)

Salut Amy
There is an English expression "to live on love and fresh air." I haven't heard it or read it recently and I suspect it's a bit old-fashioned.
Considering the similarity of the 2 expressions, I wonder whether they arose independently, or whether one was borrowed from the other, in which case the change from "air" to "water" or vice versa is very interesting...

Hmm I think the translation would be simply "To live on Love". However the quote MikeL brings up is quite interesting. Does anyone know from whom it is quoted?
