Translation needed -- fitting saws

Postby Patty43 » 2005-05-13, 17:27

I don't understand the meaning of this sentence. Could someone explain it or translate it into Spanish?

"I shall have some little labor in fitting his saws to my instances."

I don't know the expression "fiiting his saws".

Thanks in advance.

I have no idea what it means either, and I'm a native speaker. :P
The only thing I can think of is that it's some strange poetic expression.

I am in my mid seventies and going online to look for 'old sayings' as gaeilge the word 'saws' came to mind as that is what I understand it to be
and heard it used this way as a child

I think it's a pretty archaic usage, but "saws" can mean "sayings" - things like "Look before you leap", "Red sky at night, sailor's delight", etc.

See, I was taking it to mean something like having difficulty in compatibility with that person. I don't know why, but I interpreted it as trying to fit that person to the speaker, so that they work together.
