It occurred to me today that a lot of expressions in English are much wordier than they need to be. Instead of using a whole phrase, it would be far more convenient to have just a word or two. One way we accomplish this is through the use of acronyms, but not every multisyllabic expression distills down to a catchy syllable like "LOL" or "MILF". We have to explore other solutions.
One of those expressions is "to give/get an/the impression". It's something I talk about enough that I'd like to do it in less than five syllables. So I propose gomp as a substitute for get the impression. For instance:
I always got the impression that she didn't like me. > I always gomped that she didn't like me.
Then, by tapping the power of traditional English derivation, we could replace give the impression with begomp:
I was given the impression there'd be cake. > I was begomped there'd be cake.
Six syllables down to two! What a savings!
