What "pinch off"means?

Postby ArturitoR2D2 » 2017-10-25, 17:32

Hi everybody!

Somebody can explain me what "pinch off" means? I've checked myself, but I saw it in a medical context and none of the possibilities I have found seems to fit. It was about a group of cells growing in a chaotic way; before spreadig they were "pinched off".

If you can give me a translation into Spanish, even better!

Thanks in advance!

I think it means that when a cell grows it gets larger and then divides into two. The new cell breaks off the original cell. Almost like a growth that pulls apart.

To "pinch off" means to separate by pinching. So for instance gardeners will often "pinch off" buds from a plant in order to encourage it to grow more compactly.

I'm assuming someone went in with a surgical device of some sort which both severed the group of chaotic cells from the rest of the organism and held them so they could be easily removed.

Lo siento, no conozco un término equivalente.

"Quitar con los dedos"?

... o con pincitas. :D
En un contexto médico, también puede ser despegar, cortar (con pinzas o algo semejante), o cerrar con presión (p.ej. aplastar un vaso sanguíneo), según el contexto específico. Si se trata de células, sería con toda probabilidad despegar.
