Macrame history

Hi All, I am a fan of Macrame, which is back in the trend! I was wondering if some of you knows more about the history of this art, country of origin, and languages associated?
Best regards,
Sandrine

Wikipedia suggests that at least macramé-style knots go back to Babylonia and Assyria, although I don't really see a reason to believe that macramé is specific to any particular culture unless I'm misunderstanding what macramé means.

I think this person is here just to spam us with macrame site...
Still better than fake IDs, though.
