The idea is that you sit on the wooden benches (lauteet), throw water on the stove (kiuas) and enjoy the rush of heat (löyly) that the water causes. The whole idea of sauna is in the löyly which is why I've always found it amazing that in central Europe public saunas have signs like "DO NOT throw water on the stove!"...
Not sure if I answered your question or not since I don't know what you do in any other kind of baths but perhaps you can figure it out yourself from my reply.
