Does anyone have any 'space sci-fi' to recommend? I feel like I've run out :P I don't really mind low budget as long as the characters and storytelling is good, I much more prefer that over nice effects but a thin story.

Things I've watched already:
Firefly
Farscape
Babylon 5
Stargate - entire franchise
Space: Above and Beyond
Star Trek - TOS, DS9, VOY, ENT.
Battlestar Galactica - the 2000's one
Andromeda

I will probably not watch Star Trek TNG, the episodes I've caught on TV haven't exactly made me hungry for more, and I don't think I'd like to sit through yet another Star Trek series with two abysmal first seasons.

Thanks for the review. An intriguing, slow burning show that I haven't heard of. Luckily someone has uploaded the entire first season on Youtube and I've just watched it all. After the mess that is Jupiter Ascending, it's great to see the Wachowskis come back with something worthwhile.

Lito and Nomi are the two characters that resonate with me the most, and it's nice that they portray the reality of life in the developing world with a certain amount of depth.

The action scenes are kept short, to the point and they're really fun to watch. I was kept on the edge of my seat, not knowing when I would get to see Wolfgang's penis again.

I'm glad you liked it :) I wasn't sure it even made much sense

They did with me as well, I'm not surprised about Nomi since she was apparently partially based on Lana Wachowski's own experiences, but Lito... Often male gay characters on TV and their relationships make me feel completely left out, but not this time :)

I very much agree with you on the action scenes, and they get so much more exciting that way, like they really mattered instead of the usual boring 'people getting up and brushing off something that should have bashed their skull in ten times over' thing.

Wolfgang's penis was pretty meh from my perspective though, but it was nice to see the most gazing shot so to speak of a nude person be of a man for once.

The allure of said penis only makes sense because Wolfgang is the bad boy archetype, and because of the rather unusual context where it first appears in, namely Kala's ornate, traditional wedding. Otherwise, sure, it looks just like any other Caucasian penis.

At least that's the way it is to me.

Oh and I forgot to say the soundtracks are good as well. I discovered quite a few songs while watching it.

For me penises in general are very meh, as are boobs and butts and whatever ;)

I do agree that the context adds a lot to the whole thing though, and if I as an asexual person thinks that, it's a pretty safe bet that it's there for the story and not just for shock or porn light :)

It is great, I haven't checked any songs out just yet, but I did like it :)

Thanks to that series, now I have the tune of 4 Non Blondes' "What's Up" firmly lodged inside my head.

Has anyone else been watching the new War and Peace series? Wow, what a show! It's everything I could hope for from the filming of a 19th century epic Russian novel. The casting is perfect and the director is an absolute master of creating tension. The only way it could be better is if the whole thing was in Russian, but at least the characters sing in Russian.

The singing alone is already enough to make me wanderlust for Russian. :ohwell: And the series itself is making me want to read the book. Not that I'm going to do so any time soon, if ever.

Yeah, I've never read it, either, and I can't really afford to now if I'm ever going to be done reading my grandfather's war diary. I know War and Peace is a classic and all, but at this point, I have to choose between reading something like that and actually improving my Malayalam reading fluency so that reading the sort of stuff that's kind of strewn all over our house in a language I hear around me every day might eventually not take forever. :P I'm sticking with Malayalam. And I don't watch any series, so...

I'm waiting until I can read it in the original, which will hopefully be within a couple years. Is there something in particular about Malayalam that is making it a slow going to build up strong reading skills?

I had to think about this question. I don't think it's anything having to do with the language per se, more the scarcity of materials for learning it. I'm sure that the books I choose to read also play a certain role; I could have tried to look for novellas instead of 200+-page-long novels, but often, the plot of those long novels looks a lot more promising, and looking for a novel that's easier to read but isn't boring is also an endeavor that takes time.

Cliffhangers are really disrespectful.

WARNING: Spoilers for TWD underneath

Yes they really are. Like did the producers think that the fans would not come back to wacth season 7 if they showed who Negan killed, most of us know already anyway because of the comics. I don't mind cliff hangers, the season 4 cliffhanger at Terminus was actually very well done. But this one, especially after the whole dumpster dive with Glenn was just so stupid. What really made me mad was that the whole lead up was SO SO good. When Negan did his eeny meeny minie moe bit I literally had goosebumps. They seriously better open with that same scene in the Season 7 priemere it better not start with that whole Carol/Morgan BS at the Kingdom. and I hope it is the actual scene and not a time jump, I can not believe they messed up the most iconic scene in the comics lol.

At least Game of Thrones starts in almost a week!

These days i am watching Sons of Anarchy on internet. I just complete the first season and i really liked it and love to watch the other season. I think it is released in 2008. I must if you did not watch this series, just try it once, i am sure you will also like it.

This month has been quite fruitful tv-series-wise.

Earlier this month I watched Sense8. I'd been meaning to watch it for quite some time but had never gotten around it. I really enjoyed it. It's visually very pleasing—as basically anything that the Wachoswskis make—the plot is enthralling although maybe a tad too slow at times, and I really liked the cosmpolitan atmosphere.

Then I watched the first season of House of Cards (the American series, not the British one). A political series with the usual backstabbings, sleazy people, shady affairs and some creepy details, basically the usual stuff that makes a political drama enjoyable and gripping. And Kevin Spacey's affected way of acting is both odd and interesting at the same time.

I also finished the second season of AHS. Honestly I think it was a disappointing cock-up. They tried to cram way too many things into it... aliens, Satan, a mad scientist, human guinea pigs, a lunatic serial-killer and his troubled son...

Right now I'm looking forward to the new season of GoT. Season five left basically all storylines on a cliffhanger.

I really hope they ruined his character for a good reason, and it'd better lead to a satisfying conclusion. Because that was genuinely horrible to watch. The only other time GoT made me feel this queasy was when Joffrey ordered all Robert's bastards hunted down, including the infant son of a prostitute in Littlefinger's brothel.

Sorry I know this is from a long time ago, I just finished season 5 before season 6 started tonight, and I have to say that was one of the worst scenes throughout the whole series. Even worse than the Sansa rape scene. Seeing adults burned alive is disturbing muchless a child. It seemed so unlike Stannis to do that too..

Yeah, I was pretty shaken about the scene as well. Mostly because the series had spent quite a bit of time building up her character, and it was a very interesting one with a lot of potential. And then she was just wasted like that before she ever got to do anything at all.

Sorry to interrupt, but in addition to watching...certain American political satire shows, I seem to have started watching Hélène et les garçons (my French listening comprehension could seriously use some work, and apparently, all the episodes of that show are online with subtitles in French!). I've only seen the first episode so far, but it's kind of funny how all the characters look like they could have been in my brother's French textbooks.

There's other stuff I've watched a bit of, too, but then I probably do that all the time anyway.
