Do you want us to post videos for which we think the video itself is very well-done, or videos for which we especially like the music? In any case here are a few videos for which I like both aspects; I like the music but when they come up on my Youtube playlist I also find myself stopping what I'm doing to watch the video because most have a story to them that the video adds to. I suppose that fits what you are looking for, regardless of whether you wanted good visuals or good music or both!
Genre-wise they are all various forms of folk music from the Baltic area, some more traditional than others.

I was more interested in the visual / storytelling aspect, that is, videos that have one or more of these features:
1. are visually beautiful, with great cinematography
2. tell the story of the song in a creative / interesting way
3. have good choreography

I do not necessarily like the music in all the videos I posted, but I really enjoy watching the videos themselves
We're already sharing our favourite songs in lots of other threads, so I decided to dedicate this thread to the aspects of music videos not so commonly discussed, as everybody pays most of their attention to the musical aspect.

Thank you for sharing all these videos!

I think that's a great idea! Here's some videos that I've liked:

https://youtu.be/paO_XFJr85s

https://youtu.be/0HtvH34CmZY

https://youtu.be/Ve6Rd0G4TK0

https://youtu.be/5lJJeG6rtzs

https://youtu.be/jOsW6BHzrD8

https://youtu.be/k3Xfih67nGI
It's a parody of this song. They're hungry because they left for a hike but forgot to ration their food. The wind took their last breadcrumbs and now they're ready to eat anything to get enough energy to go home.

https://youtu.be/oJ7CSnM3pmU
Another parody! They want to move to Norway because everything is better there: the gáktis (the blue dress at the beginning) are more beautiful, the Sámi have more rights, and they'd even get salary without working. I just love the 90's vibe, their silliness, and the little details like "Suomi" being crossed over with a marker and substituted with handwritten "Norge".

https://youtu.be/lUxycEg_cdk
This one is not my favourite because of how good it is, but because how weird it is. :D Someone really thought "I know what'd make a good music video" and then convinced everyone else that they need to get people dressed in körtti style clothes and make them listen to the band in a barn while standing still and expressionless - and then pepper that with a random Hamlet reference for no reason. Perfect! ;)

Cool, that's what I thought you meant! All of the ones I posted have one or more of the features too. For #2 (telling the story), I think the best of what I posted are these three: Hommik (Curly Strings), Naised, naised (Naised köögis), Kallimale (Trad. Attack), and Mõtsavele mäng (Mari Kalkun).
By the way, I thought that Kallimale video could use some explanation if anyone is interested since the voices at the end do not sound like professional singers and other viewers might wonder about it, there's actually a good reason for this and it's part of its charm.
► Show Spoiler

The video in Hommik is of course a dream and I love the symbolism of the windows.
Mõtsavele mäng is about the Estonian soldiers who lived in the forest during World War II and stayed there when the Soviets came after the war.
And I love the idea that the women in the song Naised, naised provide the fish for the man's fishing trip, among other things. LOL!
I will probably post more videos later because I can think of some right now for which I can't remember the titles or artists, just the content of the video itself - I like them but I can't find them, until I remember the title or artist to search for.

I saw this exact one for the first time yesterday - it came up in my recommendations while I was searching for the ones that I posted! I guess even the Youtube algorithm agrees with you that it goes together with the others in this thread.

Count this among those things I never thought I'd say, but that campfire scene with the Land Squid Thing is adorable.

Of course!

I think it maybe has got more views in the last few weeks than in years because Yle made the TV show where the video is from available in Yle Areena some time ago, and that's why youtube is recommending it. :hmm:

Are you sure körtti and kört mean the same thing? Körtti in Finnish is the type of fold found in some folk dress jackets as well as in the jacket the men of the Awakening movement wore. Here's photos:

It's believed the fold in their clothes was the source of the name körtti, which was used to mock the members of the movement (which itself became known as körttiläisyys). Körtti and körttiläisyys have lost their negative tone, though, and nowadays they are used even by the members themselves.

The clothes are plain and dark coloured because the members wanted to emphasise their modesty and their attempts to avoid sin and excess pride in one's looks. The current members of the movement wear the same clothes in day to day life as everyone else, but you can sometimes see the dresses in their religious gatherings. Here's some photos:

Sorry to say this, but your joke doesn't work very well! :D The Awakening is mostly active in South Ostrobothnia, and gáktis are only worn by the Sámi in Lapland, where Laestadianism is much more prominent than the Awakening.

No, they aren't the same at all, but both have a common Germanic etymology (and are related to English "skirt" and "shirt"). In Estonian kört just means "skirt" in certain dialects, but since the Kihnu island dialect is one of them, it is associated with the Kihnu-style striped wool skirt, brightly colored and predominantly red (bright red with various colored stripes for regular everyday use, or dark blue with various colored stripes for mourning). So it is a false cognate with körtti.

(sv) skört hem of a jacket, tail of a tailcoat, flap, skirt [according to various dictionaries]
(et) kört skirt
(fi) körtti tail of a tailcoat [according to Wiktionary], type of fold found in certain jackets
(en) skirt, shirt
Proto-Germanic: *skurtijǭ skirt, apron

I don't know much about music videos and I just want to say thank you to Naava. Thru your introduction, Naava, I have some basic understanding to the culture of Finland. Knowing little about the Western, I did spend time googling the two regions and two movements you mentioned. This is a good cultural interaction to me. Thank you.

That word has had a wild journey! :D It's one of my favourite ones, tbh, because you can find it in so many different languages and always with a new meaning.

You're welcome! I'm glad you learnt something new. :) You might also like this thread about Finnish culture, although there aren't that many posts yet... I've been intending to write more, but I always forget to do anything more than just planning in my mind.

Here are some videos that came to my mind.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO1VDCZh_Ko
Frankly, most of Stromae's music videos could go on my list. I enjoy this one because of how strong the characters are, even though all we know about them is what they do with a video camera at a family function. And Stromae himself appears in the video — as the singer for the band at the event — but it's remarkably understated. The little nostalgic touches one associates with video tape recordings are super charming.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mgfe5tIwOj0
You might notice that each of the people in blue has a double in orange. The filming process must have taken so much planning, since, for each part, they were dancing opposite people who weren't there. And then you notice that one of the orange people was actually present when they filmed the blue side, so she was dancing alongside people who weren't there. Also, artistic direction was provided by Mosaert, a musical production company founded by … Stromae :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbQpgFsJ_Co
I've started thinking of this music video as "paradoxical minimalism" because it's so stripped back that it reveals increased complexity. Yseult is not in some featureless void; instead, you see all the piping and utility boxes and discolored concrete of the cavernous room she's kneeling in. No effort has been made to hide the track for the dolly shot, so there's an awareness of the camera and how our view of Yseult is being controlled. The piano recording feels raw; you hear the pianist's fingernails tapping on the keys.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDXOzr0GoA4
I like this one for much simpler reasons: all the optical illusions! I love music videos that play with perception.
