Hello!

I was in Poland for the first time and I actually liked it a lot! :D

Anyway, I've been reading about Poland and its history.
I found something about Tutejsi (or Tutejszy?) or Poleszuk.

Do they practically speak a mix of Polish and Lithuanian?

Are the Polish minority in Lithuania today descendants of Tutejsi and speak a similar language?

Thanks!

I'm glad you liked it in Poland!
1) As far as I know the Poleszuks' language is completly Slavic (well, as completely as possible). If you would like to describe it as a mix of languages, Ukrainian, Belorussian and Polish are the best candidates.
2) No, the Polish minority in Lithuania descended from Poles and polonised Lithuanians (due to common history) and has little to do with the Poleszuk people. They have their own Polish dialects, the most prominent one is the dialect of Vilnius.

Poleszuks mainly inhabit the northern Ukrainian region (north of Kiev and Żytomierz), bordering Belarus. They speak a language which overall resembles a mixture of Ukrainian and Belarusian, with some archaisms (i.e. often Polonisms).

Identity amongst the Poleszuks doesn't seem to be strong today - I am not aware of any cultural or political organisations, so Poleszuk culture is, unfortunately, in decline.

Many people around here bear the surname 'Poliščuk' (Poleszuk).
