I couldn't find a thread for this language, so I'm making this one to post some cool links. Firstly, you probably have to understand German to get anywhere with Zazaki since that's all I could find...and Germans love their Iranistik.
Map 1
Zazaki is an Iranian language and stems from Parthian, so is more related to Gorani than Persian or Kurdish, although looking at the vocabulary, a lot can be worked out with some knowledge of those two languages.
Map 2
There are an estimated 1.5 - 2.5 million speakers living in central Anatolia. Much like the Kurds, the Zazaki language as well as culture has been oppressed for a long time and many Zazakis now prefer to speak Turkish over Zazaki. However, their is interest in maintaining the language and apparently there are some Zazaki programmes shown by TRT 6 on Fridays.
Zazaki has often been considered a Kurdish dialect, however, looking at map 1 shows us this isn't true. Nevertheless, the Zazakis have received a kind of double oppression since many Kurds don't want to see Zazaki separatism grow.
Here is an interesting article on the linguistics of the language by my old lecturer from Hamburg.
Anyway, here are the resources:
A language course (German)
A small Zazaki vocabulary(German)
I recently bought the Little Prince in Zazaki, so at a later point I might write up a small extract to look at and possibly decipher.
