Talvez a gente possa achar gente lá.

Re: Eonavian - Galician/Asturian transition dialect

Postby Michael » 2011-09-30, 6:35

IMO the dialects that would appear to be "traditional" would be closer to Galician and those that would appear to be "modern" would be closer to Asturian. At least that's how I perceive it as.

I'm in a limbo as of what to make of it. According to the Asturian Wikipedia article on Eonavian not even Eonavians themselves know what to make of it.
“According to speakers themselves, and according to the Second Sociolinguistic Survey of Asturias (2002) hosted by Euskobarómetro, which is directed by sociologist Francisco Llera Ramo, for two in every three (66%) inhabitants of Navia-Eo the speech of the region is a mix of Galician and Asturian, while for 16% it is an Asturian dialect and only for 8% does it appear to be a Galician dialect. Regarding the name preferred to denominate the speech of Navia-Eo, one in every three people (33%) want to keep on calling it "fala" and one in every four persons (24%) chooses the new term Galician-Asturian. About the same number (22%) want to keep on calling it Asturian. Only 2% of survey takers call it Galician. In Navia-Eo the fight for official recognition is not as pronounced as in the rest of Asturias, so those who support and those who oppose official status for Galician-Asturian are very divided: 30% each one. In the middle, one in every three people couldn't care less about the issue. A bit higher are the percentages of support towards official recognition for Asturian (34%), but amongst those who support it, six of every ten people (62%) also request that Eonavian be made official in its respective region if Asturian is made official.”

Quem você achar, me manda também.

Interesting about LL in Asturian: never realised there was a possibility of a "ch" or "sh" or "ts" type pronunciation (sorry, don't do IPA). I'm minded of Argentinian/Chilean Spanish, where a word like "calle" is often pronounced "cazhe"

Asturian textbook

Postby amirro » 2013-01-03, 12:05

Hello there.

I'm opening this post to see and check if there's someone here who has a textbook to learn Asturian (and, therefore, ih s/he has it, see if it could be shared) or a proper online resource to know the language rules.

I can recommend this webpage, which has daily news in Asturian (http://www.lesnoticies.com/), but I suppose people who'll read this post will already know it.

Hope to hear from someone!!
The Italian adage just said it: traduttore, traditore (translator, traitor); probably that's why we need to know different languages.
