Thank you. :)

Is it a living word at all? I tried to find its meaning by google image search and it gave me pictures about different things but telephones.

Hi there,

I am an archivist working on a collection of political posters from the late 1980s documenting the fall of communism in Eastern Europe/Soviet Union. We have a poster in what I think is Armenian script that I am having trouble translating. Could anyone give me a hand? Here is the image of it on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gwgelmansp ... 523384764/

Thanks!

Thank you! The question mark makes sense--the poster is questioning whether the dialogue between two very different things (the horn and the machinery) is real. I really appreciate your assistance.

I had a hard time with the alphabet. Here's what I wrote on the Most Difficult Language (for you) thread:
eskandar wrote:Armenian is a tough alphabet to master - I spent two months in Armenia and took an Armenian class there, and even at the end of my time there (when I had developed passable conversational ability in the language) I was still struggling with the alphabet. Firstly, you have to master so many different forms. Print and cursive can be very different, and uppercase can be very different from lowercase (look at the difference between these pairs of upper/lowercase letters: Ա ա, Յ յ, Փ փ, etc.), which means you have to memorize as many as 4 totally different shapes for each letter. Then there's the fact that so many different letters closely resemble other letters, making it easy to get them mixed up; compare գ and զ, ե and է, դ and ղ and ո and ռ ... Also, some (like me) have trouble distinguishing between aspirated and non-aspirated consonants, so I was often mixing up the letters for b, p, and pʰ. Finally, Armenian spelling is not perfectly regular. It has its idiosyncrasies, such as leaving ը (schwa) out of some words (ie գրել , written 'grel' but pronounced 'gərel'), and other strange things (խոսել is written 'xosel' but spoken 'xosal'), and others.
Please correct my mistakes in any language.

I couldn’t help remembering that a Thai acquaintance once said the very same about his learning the Latin alphabet in his childhood. :D

I learnt how to write Armenian several months ago. I actually found it pretty easy to learn it, perhaps because I've written like only in cursive since like second grade  I uploaded to Photobucket several months ago a sample of my Armenian handwriting using the UDHR in Armenian as a sample.

And you cannot imagine how happy I am to be relearning Armenian after having been dormant for 6 months in the distant corners of my mind!!

They have this on Amazon. Though I'm not sure how good it is, as I don't have it (yet!).
I actually have this one and it's pretty good.
