Languages of Equatorial Guinea and Gabon

French is the official language of Gabon and co-official with Spanish and Portuguese in Equatorial Guinea, but there are other languages spoken in both countries, especially in Gabon. Almost all of these languages are Bantu, the most widespread language in both countries being Fang. The other languages include two pidgins (one Portuguese-based and one English-based) in Equatorial Guinea and the Baka language, which is Ubangian, spilling over from the eastern end of the border with Cameroon.

The other languages of Equatorial Guinea are the Sawabantu languages Benga, Tanga, Yasa, and Kombe; the closely related language varieties, Kwasio and Gyele; another language called Lengue; and a language that may be related to it called Seki. The remaining languages spoken in Gabon come from an even higher number of branches within the Bantu family. Out of these languages, only Benga and Seki are also spoken in Gabon.
