Mchezo wa alfabeti (majina)

It's a game, but the end goal is to have something like an alphabet book. I got the idea here. Maybe afterward it can be compiled in the Wiki or elsewhere.

Guidelines:
1. Pick a noun, go in alphabetical order.
2. Optional, but preferable, write a short sentence using the word. Memorable is better, for the ultimate compilation!
3. Also optional, post a translation if you like.

Don't worry too much about making mistakes. Someone will most likely be able to correct it. Also, we may skip Q and X, as I don't think they exist in Swahili.

Hei Sarabi, the ''gh'' combination is the only thing i'm quite unsure about when it comes to the pronounciation of Kiswahili. Is it similar to the german r? The mwanasimba site (great site!) says it sounds something like french, though I have no clue how to say the french one.

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

D - dawa
Daktari alinipa dawa. The doctor gave me medicine.

Letehn: It depends where you are! In Kenya, they most likely pronounce gh like English hard g, as in "good". In Tanzania, however, they use this sound which comes from Arabic... It's not exactly the French r, which is a voiceless uvular fricative. The gh is a voiced velar fricative.

I don't know what the German r is, but here is an IPA chart with audio so you can hear it for yourself.

I made a page about Swahili matamshi here.
