Also I love the Cyrillic alphabet.

So do I, but I also like the Latin alphabets for some of the Turkic languages, especially Turkmen. But I do like Uzbek a bit better in Cyrillic, the Latin variant is a bit to sterile for my tastes.

At any rate, I was just curious about your alphabet choice.

Yes, Uzbek can be written in Cyrillic, the government promotes Latin, but the country is still in the process of transition.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that on a governmental, and educational stand point, Latin is were it's at for Uzbekistan. For personal use however, some people might still use the Cyrillic.

Until 1992, Uzbek continued to be written using a Cyrillic alphabet almost everywhere, but now in Uzbekistan the Latin script has been officially re-introduced, although the use of Cyrillic is still widespread. The deadline in Uzbekistan for making this transition has been repeatedly changed. The latest deadline was 2005, but was shifted once again to provide a few more years.

Already education in many areas of Uzbekistan is in the Latin script, and in 2001 the Latin script began to be used for coins. Since 2004 some official websites have switched over to using the Latin script when writing in Uzbek. Most street signs are also in the new Latin script.

So I guess Cyrillic might be a little more present that I thought, but Latin still seems more prevalent.

At any rate, we're all in agreement that both are still in use.

Naturally, as the official languages of Kazakhstan (Kazakh and Russian) use the Cyrillic script. As do the languages of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Though I think Tajik can also be written in Persian script (as it's a dialect of Persian anyway).

What about my songs?

Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan use Latin, so i would write them using Latin, whereas Kazakh and Kyrgyz use Cyrrilic, so I would write them with Cyrillic.
I try to stick to native ortography.

A lot of Mongolians use Latin, I don't know why
I asked one Mongolian girl about it, and she said that if she were to write in Cyrillic other people would not understand her
they know Latin, but don't know their country's official script?
Or were they Chinese Mongolians?

Nobody likes our Slavic alphabet!
Only Kazakh and Kyrgyz, Mongolian, Tajiks are our friends!!!

Anyway Turkic languages tend to be written with Arabic script in China.


There is a lot of them, not only Uighur, but also over a million of Kazakhs in China.

I like the Arabic script the most, for writing Turkic langs.
They use some special letters not used in Standard Arabic

-Expressing condition


In order to express condition in Uzbek we add -sa to the verb stem.


bormoq -> bor -> borsa
to go - > go! -> if (it) goes

bu qiz mektepga borsa o'g'iydi.
If this girl will go to school she will study.


I think you can add personal endings to it.


So


do'konga borsaman baliq al!
if you go to a shop, please buy a fish!

I actually love the Central Asian languages, so I'm planning on learning one, just not sure if it'll be Uzbek, Turkmen or Kazakh.

I would like to formally learn Uzbek one day. I took a field methods course and our consultant spoke Uzbek, so I know some from that class. Because of this I know quite a bit of the grammar and am able to construct fairly complex sentences but I don't really know much vocab nor do I know any every day phrases.

If anyone is interested I can post a paper I wrote on causatives in Uzbek. I must warn you the language is transcribed with APA and not in a native orthography.
