This time, I'll start out by posting two Malayalam songs that are not movie songs but rather folk songs that I just happened to stumble across. One is "Mandaarakkaavilu" from the album Kunjippennu, a song about celebrating Pooram, which is a festival celebrated every year in certain parts of Kerala:

"Swapnangale Veenurangoo" from Thakilukottampuram (1981) is a song I've heard my dad sing many times, but I'd never seen a movie clip of this song or heard the version as sung in the movie (and didn't know what movie it was from or anything). "Manjalayil Mungithorthi" is a song from the movie Kalithozhan (1966). This is the first time I've ever heard the whole song sung by someone other than my dad again. The actors here are Prem Nazir and Sheela, two of the biggest names in the Malayalam movie industry at the time (Sheela had played Karuthamma in Chemmeen the year just before this movie):

This is a Christian song from Thomasleeha (1975), which is based on the legend of Apostle Thomas introducing Christianity to Kerala. Apparently, songs like this were intended to attract Christian audiences and convince them that watching movies was not a morally objectionable activity (a very big and common concern among people in the early years of the movie industry not only in Kerala but also in India more generally, since women acting was seen as equivalent to prostitution):

Also originally sung in an older film (Pingaami) but I think this version is actually better than the original, although admittedly the lyrics make more sense when sung by a woman.
