This time, I'll start out by posting two Malayalam songs that are not movie songs but rather folk songs that I just happened to stumble across. One is "Mandaarakkaavilu" from the album
Kunjippennu, a song about celebrating
Pooram, which is a festival celebrated every year in certain parts of Kerala:

raavile pONenikk(u).I have to go in the morning. The other is "Enthaadalaadaa 'Love'shadam?" from
Nattamma, about a young lady and an Ayurvedic doctor falling in love with each other. The title is a pun on the phrase എന്തടലാടാ ഔഷധം?
enthaDalaaDaa aushadham? 'hey, do you have any medicine?', but replacing
au with
lau, which is how Malayalees (and a lot of other South Asians) stereotypically pronounce 'love'. A lot of it is really hard to translate:

aushadham uNDeDii paarukkuTTyE!I have medicine, Parukutty! And now back to old movie songs, lol. But both of the next two songs are from dubbed movies, and I've posted the original versions in the threads for songs in each respective language. The first one is "Chinnum Ven Thaarathin Aanandavela" from
Jeevithasamaram (1971), which is a translation of the Hindi song "Jhilmil Sitaaron Ka Aangan Hoga" from
Jeevan Mrithyu:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qz6UUu-Hmf8Lyrics:
http://www.malayalasangeetham.info/s.php?13140The happy occasion of the white stars scattering
Is the time when the flower-arrowed one (Cupid) dances everywhere.
The dream of the beautiful wish-fulfilling tree that I wish for is a lifetime journey.
We, we just made a small illusory
House in the romantic game of love,
In the romantic game of love.
In the world of dreams, my love,
We stayed to play and dance.
The comic occasion when a sweet desire is spread
Is the time when the flower-arrowed one dances everywhere.
Owner of lifelong happiness, you bring me my melody!
Cool rain of love, oh, bring me the sky!
The time of sight that your eyes seek
Is the time when the flower-arrowed one dances everywhere.
With the fragrance of scattering flowers
This forest of desire is filling up.
My mind is seeing the spring of a dream of many kinds of pleasure.
The romantic game of pleasant times inside us
Is the time when the flower-arrowed one dances everywhere. And the second is "Neelavaanacholayil" from
Premabhishekam (1982), a dubbed version of the Tamil song "Neela Vaana Odayil" from
Vaazhvey Maayam, a movie that was a remake of a Telugu movie also called
Premabhishekam from the same year!
Here's the Malayalam version:

http://www.malayalasangeetham.info/s.php?10817Moonlight swimming in the shade of the blue sky,
I saw the poems I penned in your eyes,
My goddess who came without coming!
Oh, the Meghaduta sung by Kalidasa
Is the melodious song that is the male servant to my goddess!
A female bird spreads drops of honey on her lips.
I am alone if you are not there.
Why only this silence?
Why don't you and I put (wedding) garlands around each other tomorrow?
Let's stand together and bless the heavens and Earth!
Is it anger, eagerness, or thirst that is in your eyes?
O Sridevi, my life,
Wherever you are, I am there, too!And here are some more songs because why the hell not.
The first two of these are songs I'm pretty sure my mom was listening to recently; the other two are from a movie called
Dasaratham (1989), and I'm posting them because my niece was here for Christmas and they're so childish.
First, here's "Doore Oru Thaaram" from
Meenathil Thalikettu (1998):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXfQTxTnn-ELyrics in Malayalam:
https://m3db.com/lyric/67695 (note that ഏകാന്തമാം is misspelled)
Romanized lyrics + partial lyrics in Malayalam script:
https://en.msidb.org/s.php?9598There's a star far away and a shore down below.
There's a sweet, invisible swan in the wind as a messenger.
Whether sunlight comes through the glass or it rains at night,
My precious, I'll come calling at your door
In a secret place tonight,
With the tenderness of love this time.
I'm listening slowly to the song you're
Humming in an imaginary tent, pigeon!
Let's join at the breast and go fly out around!
Let's steal the teardrops of a
Heart in pain with our eyebrows!
Let's sing a lullaby, la la la,
And dance happily together!
Baby cuckoo of my desire, I can see all
My dreams, any colors, my lifetime achievements
With the tenderness of my melody without trying to!
If you shine as a moon of flowers on a
Branch of this rainbow that drowns in the dew,
I'll turn into a swing
Tonight under your flute. And "Sharonin paneer poo choodi varoo" from
Saaphalyam, an unreleased movie from 1997:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLRzbxhP78cLyrics:
http://www.malayalasangeetham.info/s.php?15350You shy lover of the autumn at the end of my life,
Come wearing rosewater flowers from Sharon!
You spray cool nectar throughout your life!
You come with your beautiful body like a pot of honey
That fresh youth froths like new wine!
Here are a pair of deer in the shade of a tree in the forest.
Come sing a song in response like a cuckoo sings
While a cool stick of dew blooms with moonlit flowers!
You're not the wind that runs around kissing each and every flower.
You're a sweet dragonfly casting a spell in the ear of the flower you seek.
I gently embraced the bosom of this body blossoming like
The trees trembling as the seasons caress them. Slumber at
Your leisure, you determined lady! Here I am spreading blossoming
Flowers, cool weather, after we howled boisterously on the bed in the
Bridal chamber and after we just came together with honeyed words!
Leaning on this breast today, I'm seeing some dream
On the hill of fresh green grass where the musk deer grazes.
Dreams sprouted their flowers, and you spread
Their petals. My heart beating in the comfort
The flower's finger caressed is calling a precious
Cuckoo. You come here and awaken, my love, with
A sweet, pleasant melody on the string of
Your beloved inner veena
!And finally "Chinchilam Thenmozhi" and "Mandaaracheppundo" from
Dasaratham (sorry for the poor audio quality for the first one, but this is exactly how I remember hearing it!
And the second one begins about one minute into the video):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFlH_dlHvGELyrics:
http://www.malayalasangeetham.info/s.php?6987As a thousand days flower in my life,
Here, all around the Earth, are
Gentle ditties of honeyed words!
There is pleasant beauty everywhere.
There's a wave of happiness inside me.
On this solitary stage today,
Light-colored birds spread some kind of beauty!
Here, all around the Earth, are
Gentle ditties of honeyed words!
As for the waves that tiny hands weave nearby,
Today, with the rhythm of my heart,
With a thrill, they bring good times.
For one dawn, they are happiness.
They wear the colors filling
The Earth in large amounts.
Light-colored birds spread some kind of beauty!
Here, all around the Earth, are
Gentle ditties of honeyed words!
The flowering feet begging slowly for alms
Are a feast for the eyes.
As they chatter with
Their sweet rain of blandishments,
The smell of the flowers blooming all
Along the way has become sweet.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL4YIRU24I0Lyrics:
http://www.malayalasangeetham.info/s.php?6986Graceful lady, do you have a bouquet of crown flowers or a ruby stone in your hands?
Do you have gold, honey, and sweet flag? Do you have the feathers of a skylark?
Silence sings as waves of delight rise inside you.
The endearment of a lullaby in the caressing wind,
The purity of a harmful song that a bedtime song brings,
While the blossoming vallies provide their rhythms,
While my cold hand makes my heart tender,
As flower buds are decorated with petals, as the sun is decorated with rays,
Silence sings as waves of delight rise inside you.
As the lonely journey of the burning sun ends,
When night from then adorns itself with wings of darkness,
As the path is covered in its spreading blue hue,
Who can sleep in the growing silence?
As a leaf falls for a second, while driving the chariot of birth,
Silence sings as waves of delight rise inside you.
