Is there no topic for Kashmiri yet? Shame!
I've been lusting for it for a while. I found some pdfs and what not for it, so maybe I'll do some dabbling.

Here are a couple resources:

I don't think there is a topic for Kashmiri yet. I love Kashmiri, it's such a beautiful language! And Kashmir itself is also so beautiful!!

I remember finding the first link a long time ago. I never really gave Kashmiri a go at the time, but it's an interesting language.

Seven-month bump, just because it's cold and cold weather reminds me of Kashmiri!

Here are a few more songs (I have even more of them up my sleeve :P). One is "Wathu laalo nindre," a poem by the female 16th-century poet Habba Khatoon. This rendition of that poem is one of my favorite Indian songs (probably like the fourth Kashmiri song I'd ever heard), and in fact, I've posted it before in the songs thread:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSa0vcxyFjw

The one I heard after that was "Maharaza Ho," a Kashmiri version of "Vash Malle" from the Bollywood movie Henna (1991). "Maahaaraazaa" in Kashmiri means 'bridegroom'; the word for 'bride' is "maahaaraanee." (All the vowels in both words are long ). This isn't exactly the highest-quality video I've seen, but I kind of like it anyway:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvjbHgo0JrA

That channel has some other Kashmiri versions of Bollywood songs, including "Rab Ko Yaad Karoon" from Khuda Gawah
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtT2pf5Ciho

as well as some Kashmiri songs, like "Sweetie Sweetie Drai Duty," a humorous song that apparently has become a kind of Kashmiri cult classic(!):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fGi_VwcBdA

It also has a few short comedy skits in Kashmiri such as this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LPe3IK09Fs

And this one:

The first song listed here as "Ha AshkI Tchhooro, RashkI Kerthas" is a Kashmiri song ("ashq"/"ashkI" -> a love song?) as sung by Asha Bhosle.

This is the same song as sung (more recently) by a Kashmiri singer named Shazia. It sounds like a better quality recording :D

Are you sure that's what it is? I couldn't find any Kashmiri anywhere on that site. :?

But anyway, another Kashmiri song, which I think is really called "Laalas wantai chhu sawaal," with an introduction in Hindi/Urdu:

I think I actually like Asha Bhosle's version better in this particular case. :P

"Walo myaani poshe madano" is another poem by Habba Khatoon. I managed to find a PDF of the entire text of this poem and six others in Devanagari as used for Kashmiri (and one of them is also available in a Romanized version!). I've included a video of this song plus the lyrics in Devanagari as they're sung in the video:

Here are two videos, along with the text (in Devanagari), of the second Habba Khatoon poem I found the text for. This poem is called "Gaah Chon Pyawaan."

The first video here is from Habba Khatoon, a Kashmiri movie from 1975 directed by Bashir Budgami. All of the songs were sung by Shameema Azad. See here for more information on the movie and Habba Khatoon herself. The whole movie is available online as well:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxzZiiaLOuw

Here's the part of the poem that is relevant for most of the above video and all of the following one:

And finally, here's another rendition of this poem by Mehmeet Syed. This is the same lady who sang the first Kashmiri song I posted here, i.e. "Wathu Laalo Nindre" (which is also by Habba Khatoon):

OK, I guess I managed to find two videos for each of the poems by Habba Khatoon I know of! (Well, for almost all of them, anyway). In all cases, the first video is from the old movie about her, and the second is another version by Mehmeet Syed. :P

This is the third song, "Kãasi mo raavun shoore paan." Again, I've included the lyrics (in Devanagari, as always) that appear in both songs, and once again, Mehmeet's version includes the second stanza, but the movie version doesn't. So here's the movie version from 1975:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9eM9ShnWFw

And the relevant lyrics for these two videos are as follows:

And finally, here's Mehmeet's version of the same song! I think this version is kind of cuter :D

The next song is "Maalinyo ho." Both the movie version of this song and Mahmeet Syed's version use the exact same lines from the original poem. This is the version from the movie, followed by the lyrics (in Devanagari, as always) used in both versions and then Mahmeet's version:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXeKhKMqxN0

Next is "Chhaav myaani daanay posh." I actually can't find a YouTube clip for this particular song from the movie for which the title indicates that it's this song in particular, but this clip from the movie actually is of that song. (Give yourself a pot of buttermilk if that sentence made sense to you!). Below is the movie clip, followed by Mahmeet Syed's version and, in between those two, the parts of the poem used in either the movie or Mahmeet's version (written out in Devanagari as usual):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtaBJbvpx40

"Tsi' kyawho zi' gayi myaani di'y" is the next song. For this song, I have access to (some variation of) the lyrics not only in Devanagari but also in IPA! A slightly different version of the lyrics in IPA may be found here with a translation into English. However, the Devanagari version is much closer to the lyrics in these two videos. As usual, the first is from the movie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1QDnzixvhI
The lyrics are:

Plus one more stanza that isn't there in Mahmeet's version:

And here is that version! :)

And finally, here's one last poem by Habba Khatoon called "Poshe Mati Jaanaano"! There are at least a few different renditions of it. Here's one that's sung in a style that's pretty different from most of the songs I've posted here but also relatively faithful to the lyrics of this particular poem, sung and played on a guitar by Nissar Dar (I've included the lyrics in Devanagari below the video as I found them online. For the purposes of this post, at least, the lyrics as written are not necessarily identical to the ones sung in the videos they correspond to):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8Wv73WVE9o

More commonly, just the first half-line of this song is sung...followed by lyrics from the first Habba Khatoon poem I posted here, "Dil Nith"! So this last song is tied in nicely with the first song. :D Here's Mahmeet Syed singing that with the lyrics in Devanagari below the video again:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikT_5dbEyAY

By the way Vijay are you using a Kashmiri font because some of the letters are coming up as boxes?

Well, not really. What I do is to use Google Input Tools for Hindi (you probably know what I'm talking about already, but I included a link just to make sure it was clear :D), but since Kashmiri has a lot of sounds (mainly vowels) that Hindi doesn't have, there are other symbols that are used for writing Kashmiri in Devanagari script but aren't used in Hindi. Those symbols are the ones that probably aren't displaying correctly. (I find that some symbols display better in Chrome than on Firefox and others are the other way around :ohwell:).

So to add those special symbols, I click on "special characters," then a small window pops up and I click on "Symbol" and then "South Asian Scripts," and then next to that, I click on where it says "Bengali" (which is the script they show you by default since Bengali starts with B ) and click on "Devanagari" instead, and finally, I go through the list of symbols and click on whichever one I need. :)

Sorry, it's kind of a complicated explanation. Hope it makes some sense, though! :)

Oh, no problem, and I'm glad you like the songs and the lyrics in Devanagari script! But if you just want to see the lyrics without all the boxes, I pretty much just got them from here. (That page has the full poems, whereas these songs just include part of the lyrics from each poem, like in ghazals and such). :)
