Moon can be said:

1 நிலா, Nilā (in fact, this means: Moonshine)
2 நிலவு Nilavu
3 சந்திரன் Cantiraṉ (older form and preferred in Lanka)

Sample phrase:

பூமிக்கும் நிலாவுக்கும் சராசரி தொலைவு 384, 403 கி.மீ.
Pūmikkum nilāvukkum carācari tolaivu 384, 403 ki.Mī.

important difference between Srilankan and Indian tamil is that in srilankan tamil the terms “uvan”" uval” and other similar ones are still used

in indian tamil they have only 2 terms, for place-terms
if we take a person as example

“ivan” =the one in front of me
“avan”=the one who is far away

in Srilankan tamil we have

“ivan” =the one who is in front of me இவன்
“avan”= the one who is far away அவன்
“uvan”= the one who is in between. not too far not too close உவன்

:)
