That's probably just a colloquial pronunciation of போக, the infinitive of the verb root போ. In Tamil, it is important to make distinctions between verb roots and their infinitives. But I'm not about to get all in depth with it  I'm glad to see you're learning Malayalam, TeneReef! I guess a Dravidian group would definitely be possible here on Unilang! :D

NOTE: I believe the Tamil I'm currently learning is செந்தமிழ் (Formal Tamil) and not கொடுந்தமிழ் (Colloquial Tamil) but I wouldn't worry too much about that especially because I just have no need whatsoever for the language, yet I still love it with all my heart

Have you noticed that Tamil characters are always larger than the ones in Roman script, and Malayalam characters are smaller, so when you choose the font size 10, Tamil characters look as if they were 12, and Malayalam ones 8. :?

I always have to make my Malayalam font size larger because the characters are so tiny in FireFox (much better in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome).

You should see Telugu, Kannada, and Oriya! You'd be grateful for how big Malayalam already is!

The most important Tamil word to me and in the whole language, and a word which comes out of every Tamil song, film, mouth, and heart:

காதல்
 kaadhal love

Assimil has published a thorough course on Tamil. You couldn't be looking for anything better than that. :)

Tamil is on my list of languages to explore too. But I've postponed it to 2012. This year I'm gonna be very very busy with my Herculean study program that includes Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Turkish, Japanese.... I wish Living Language had some materials on Tamil too, but they still don't. Their books work fine together with Assimil, as a complement.

Well, if you are very interested in learning Tamil, Assimil could be very good. We can help you understanding the texts, you can request translations of it through PM. Good part of Assimil is that it contains good recordings, etc. It could help you reaching intermediate level.
