A certain fellow UniLanger has hinted that I should continue the tradition that has emerged this month of opening threads for study groups for all kinds of languages. Hence, the Australian Aboriginal Languages Study Group!

In other words: This is a study group for any and all Aboriginal Languages of Australia. I personally have been studying Light Warlpiri. Księżycowy has expressed some amount of interest for Arrernte, Pitjantjatjara, Bardi, Yan Nhangu, Gamilarray, and Kunwinjku.

Anyone is welcome to join at any time. It is not strictly necessary that all those participating learn the same Australian Aboriginal language at the same time or at similar rates of progress, only that they are trying to learn one of these languages. However, note that I do not have access to any actual lessons for Light Warlpiri (or perhaps for any variety of Warlpiri) but am rather learning it from a paper on the language by finding words/phrases/sentences to quiz myself on.

That being said, is anyone interested in doing Light Warlpiri with me? See here if you want to get an idea of what I've been doing to learn it so far.

Where as I have talked (once) about Bardi, Yan Nhangu, Gamilarry and Kunwinjku, I won't say I'm all that interested in them. My interest mostly lies in: Arrernte, Kaytetye, Pitajantjatjara, Pintupi-Luritja and Ngaanyatjarra. (Basically, Arandic and Wati languages/dialects.) That's not to say I won't be willing to learn any of the others mentioned though.

Is this what you meant by "ask and you shall find"?

If you're willing to go through it with me, I'm willing to give it a try, too! (And/or we can also include Salajane if she's interested and show her where she can find it).

Oh, please, stop tempting me with all those study groups, I like them all . Of course I am very attracted by Pitjantjatjara since I was in Australia. But I have try a quick attempt to find any resources on the net, and I think this could be difficult

I have a feeling księżycowy may know of some resources for Pitjantjatjara.

I have a copy of the Learner's Guide, but it's unfortunately rather short and disappointing by comparison to other Learner's Guides I have.

Oh, well, at that point, I hadn't searched well enough! But then I did when you mentioned A Learner's Guide to Walpiri.

We might actually be able to find other materials for Pitjantjatjara online...

And, by the way, I have to say I'm not terribly interested in Warlpiri. At least not at the moment.

Pitjantjatjara I am extremely interested in, on the other hand! Don't tempt me Vijay!

Maybe I could share parts of Alitji in Dreamland, and that might help with Pitjantjatjara!

I always have phases about this but I can't say I have reasons to be particularly interested between one or other because everything looks the same to me

Sure, we can try! But I don't know when we should start doing such a thing.

Dang, I wonder whether I'll even be on this forum in five years.

The better question is whether this forum will still be around in 5 years.

But yes, you know you will still be here, provided the forum is as well.
