Does anyone know where I can find free online Javanese language radio (journalism, not music) or tv? I would prefer Indonesia-based sites but Suriname is okay.

Sorry, no. Why not just learn Indonesian? Aren't the very similar?

I guess you were thinking of the Malay / Indonesian pair...

Javanese and Indonesian are, indeed, related, but I wouldn't call them very similar. To prove my point, here's (a snippet of) the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in both languages:

As for the original question: no, I don't know of any. Did you try asking on some Indonesia-themed forums (eg. http://www.indoforum.org/)?

I do plan on learning Indonesian. In fact, I've already started, although it's "on hold" for now.
I don't have any plans of learning Javanese, I just like it and want to hear more.

Hello there. I just thought maybe I should put my 2 sense in :silly: Well, it would be cool to learn Javanese, but I would recommend doing Indonesian first. Not to say that Javanese isn't interesting. What I can say though, is it is more complicated than Bahasa. I can speak a bit of Javanese so I'll give you some examples:

You have three different speech levels of Javanese. You have Ngoko/Madya/Krama/. The first one would probably be learned first since it's the one children usually starts with. It's pretty straightforward. and it's considered an informal language. Krama is considerd to be more polite and elegant and is used often in formal occasions. Mdya which is used amongst people of low status; and to close people who you would still show respect to. I will use the interrogative ''this'' as an example:
Ngoko= iki / Madya=niki/ Krama= punika. Like I was saying before, Javanese is indeed an interesting language. I look forward to strengthening my Javanese level though. Oh, the Javanese traditional script is awesome! :yep: Well, good luck on your studies. By the way, check this link out:

Hello people, well I feel like a fool because I just realized in my post I said that ''This'' is an interrogative :nope: I meant to say that it's a DEMONSTRATIVE. Anyway, I just wanted to clarify that one
