Rejoice, semitophiles! I accidentally found out that two new Ugaritic resources are coming up in this November. One is titled An Introduction to Ugaritic by John Huehnergard, the author of A Grammar of Akkadian, probably the standard teaching grammar of Akkadian available now. According to Amazon, it's scheduled for Nov. 30. Here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/An-Introduction-U ... 1598568205
The other one is Basics of Ancient Ugaritic: A Concise Grammar, Workbook, and Lexicon by Michael Williams. I don't know anything about this particular author, but the fact it's coming from Zondervan might be a hint. While I'm not a big fan of Zondervan teaching grammars (of Biblical Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic), it's surprising that Zondervan's coming up with this volume since I used to associate the publisher with a very confessional attitude... I bought their Graded Readers for Biblical Greek and Hebrew and I was sorely disappointed with its exegetical approach, but with this title I might see the publisher a bit differently than before. Again, according to Amazon, it's scheduled for Nov. 20. Here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Basics-Ancient-Ug ... im_sbs_b_1
Ugaritic materials are rather sparse and the only teaching text intended for non-specialists, A Primer of Ugaritic by Schniedewind and Hunt, looked a bit unstructured to me and I found it a bit hard to use. Well, I'm going to get copies of the two when they're ready and see for myself... I know what I want for Christmas!
