I have made my attempt.. Quite shameful indeed.. most of its parts don't make sense..

The antiterrorist chief of Indonesia, gave an interview about the leaders of Islam that they must develope bombs explode in the region, following the death of the man who was working on bombs, Azahari Husein, this week.

Ansyaad Mbai, the headman of the anti-terrorist office at the Ministry of Security said that the leaders of this group will work for all the little groups, so that each one of them can develope the bomb exploding.

He told them not to come … work united … ??

The Indonesian police killed Azahari, one of the men who arrested him, and the sabotages of him in Trinde in a house in East Java province. ??

The police now is trying to find the sabotages of Azahari and a friend of him also Malaysian, Noordin Mohamad Top.

Two men that it is thought that they must be members of the Jemaah Islamiyah network and work together with al Qaeda.

They should talk about those bomb explosions in Bali last month, together with bomb explosions of October 2002 which killed 202 people.

I am curious to see the correct one

Sori tisa, mi bin tingting yu no kam long dispela forum gen. Hia stap ol eksersais bilong mi:

1. the dog is bigger than the cat
Dok i longpela long pusi

2. the girl is even bigger than her mother
Pikinini meri i longpela moa long mama bilong en

3. my mom is shorter than me
Mama bilong mi i sotpela long mi

4. i am smaller than my mom
Mi liklik long mama bilong mi

5. the girl is even smaller than her sister
Pikinini meri i liklik moa long susa bilong en

6. school is even more important than work
Skul i bikpela moa long wok

Two hints:
Sister is "susa" when referring to the kin and "sista" when referring to a nurse. Remember of the word "bratasusa". And after bilong and long, it is more common to say "en" than "em"

* I'm not saying mine are correct.. Just that they are as I've come to learn them growing up speaking tokpisin..

1. the dog is bigger than the cat
Dok i longpela moa long pusi
*when comparing things you'd put "moa" after the word which indicates what is being compared.

2. the girl is even bigger than her mother
Pikinini meri i longpela moa yet long mama bilong en
*then when you go say the comparison is greater you also add "yet".

3. my mom is shorter than me
Mama bilong mi i sotpela long mi

4. i am smaller than my mom
Mi liklik moa long mama bilong mi

5. the girl is even smaller than her sister
Pikinini meri i liklik moa yet long susa bilong en

6. school is even more important than work
Skul i bikpela moa yet long wok

Short Translation Needed

Postby Tomcat » 2006-02-28, 12:03

Could anybody translate me these two sentences?

"X has entered the room"
"X has left the room"

Please mark or explain which words stand for "the room".

Thanks a lot in advance!

Buk bilong Olpela.

Buk bilong Olpela Namba Wan.
Lao Zi, Chapter One.

道可道,非常道. 名可名,非常名. 無名天地始. 有名萬物母. 常無 欲觀其妙. 常有欲觀其徼. 此兩者 同出而異名,同謂之玄,玄之又玄,眾妙之門.

Yumi inap kolim dispela samting 'Dispela', tasol 'Dispela' i nogat tru nem bilong em. Sapos yumi givim nem long samting, dispela nem bilong em i no bikpela, em i nem tasol. Taim bipo, taim graun kirap yet, yumi nogat nem bilong ol. Tasol bihain yumi givim nem, yumi inap save as bilong ol. Sapos yu no laik givim nem bilong ol, yu bai lukim Dispela; sapos yu laik givim nem, yu bai save Dispela. Dispela tupela wankain tasol, yumi lukim wankain Dispela. Tupela i wankain puripuri. Dispela i we ol puripuri i kam long.

We can call it 'Tao' but 'Tao' is not the true name of it. Let's say we give something a name, this name is nothing significant, it's only a name. Time before, when the World establishes itself, we didn't have the name of it. Only after we give the name, we can know the origin of all things. These two are of one kind, we see this same Tao. Two are mysterious to the equal degree. This Tao is where the mysterious comes from.

I´m not a native speaker of Tok Pisin, but I´ll give it a try:

"X has entered the room":
X i go long rum pinis.

"X has left the room":
X i kam ausait long rum pinis.

the room=rum (no article).

The "i" is the predicate marker and is dropped if X is the first or second person singular.
Although the tense is present tense, the "pinis" shows that the action of entering or leaving the room is finished. The "pinis" can also be dropped if the speaker feels that the tense is made clear through the context.
Another possibility of expressing past tense is "bin":

X bin go long rum.
X bin kam ausait long rum.

I hope I could help :)

[EDIT] Hey, Clint, you are a kiwi who grew up speaking TP? How come? I know there is an Aus, NZL, PNG thing going on, but I didn't realise TP was spoken by some in NZL.

[EDIT] How comes these lessons have stopped? I am keenly interested in TP. :)

Tok Pisin seems like a cute little language. Toksave, I was listening to the news from that link you posted. Interesting to hear

Question, what is the word "translation" in Tok Pisin?

I couldn't find this word neither at the online dictionary, or in my book, so I guess it's just "translesen". Or Clint may have something else to propose

Could you please translate "butterfly" and "copper" into Tok Pisin?

Thanks for your attention.
