[flag=]gd[/flag] Tha rudeigin gu neònach tarraingeach mu dheidhinn an t-sùigh-dhearc-fhìona lobhte a tha seo...

This thread goes through brief phases where the sentences appear to form a conversation.

[flag=]ga[/flag] Bíonn gearrbhabhtaí ag teacht ar an snáithe seo ina mbíonn cuma comhrá ar na habairtí.

No they don't, that's ridiculous, there is no continuity whatsoever between the sentences in the thread!

[flag=]gd[/flag] Chan eil (idir), tha sin amaideach, chan eil ceanglaichean sam bith eadar na seantansan san t-snàithlean seo!

Are you so sure? Look at the sentence you yourself just wrote!

[flag=]ga[/flag] An bhfuil tú cinnte? Féach an abairt atá tú féin tar éis scríobh!

But they aren't even in the same language!

[flag=]gd[/flag] Ach chan ann eadhon san aon chànan a tha iad!

If you read them carefully, however, you will see the connection between them.

[flag=]ga[/flag] Má léann tú iad go cúramach, áfach, feicfidh tú an ceangal eatarthu.

The connection between the sentences or the connection between the languages? :)

[flag=]gd[/flag] An ceangal eadar na seantansan no an ceangal eadar na cànanan?

Both, but the connection between the sentences is what makes them a conversation.

I know it's OT, but can anyone translate this simple sentence into Irish: "Buy my books, now!!"

Dr. House wrote:I know it's OT, but can anyone translate this simple sentence into Irish: "Buy my books, now!!"

Singular: Ceannaigh mo leabhair, anois!
Plural [CO]: Ceannaígí mo leabhair, anois!
Plural [Trad.] Ceannaídh mo leabhair, anois!

Modern Irish has no T-V distinction.

Thanks. :) I used a different word order in one of my short stories, and it was in singular too, so this is very helpful.

[flag=]gd[/flag] Tha mi an dòchas gu bheil e ceart gu leòr ma tha mi seo ath-bheòthachadh. Bha coltas snàth gu math spòrsail air.

Certainly. But unfortunately this forum is rather dead since there are not many learners of Celtic languages here.

[flag=]ga[/flag] Cinnte. Ach ar an drochuair tá an fóram seo measartha marbh mar nach bhfuil mórán bhfoghlaimeoirí na dteangacha Ceilteacha anseo.

However, it would already be a start if the learners that are here wrote in this thread more often.

[flag=]ga[/flag] Ina dhiaidh sin, chuirfí tús maith ar an ngnó dá mba níos minice a scríobhfadh na foghlaimeorí atá i láthair sa snáithe seo.

It will take more than a couple learners to revive this thread.

I wish I didn't have to use a dictionary every time I posted anything on these threads.

Other possibilities would be "beth wn i?" and "'does gen i ddim clem/syniad/amcan".

I'm just happy at last to find good dictionaries out there.
