does mean 'intelligent', 'clever', 'shrewd' or 'devious'. 'Cute' is what we say in Hiberno-English for 'crafty' or 'devious', so that's probably where you go 'cute' from. 'Cute' in the conventional sense is 'gleoite' as Gaeilge.
