Yeah, this one's weird. The use of "saor" for "cheap" comes from "saor an-asgaidh" which lit. means "free of charge." "Saor" originally simply meant "free (of any restraints)". But now, if someone says something is "cheap" it's "saor" but if it's free of charge it's "an-asgaidh". "Saor" still means "free" for things that are liberated or independent, like the slogan "Saor Alba" = "Free Scotland."
