Thanks a lot
Téann j0nas go hÉirinn.
'j0nas is going to Ireland.'

no, this one means "J0nas goes to Ireland".
If you wanna say "J0nas is going to Ireland" then it is:
Tá J0nas ag gabháil go hÉirinn.
(Standard and Munster Irish): Tá J0nas ag dul go hÉirinn.

I would like to know what it means in English first. There are a number of constructions for expressing either obligation or supposition in Irish, and I'm not sure which one would be appropriate here. Can you give some context?
(Also, you'd probably get more responses if you posted this in the forum for Irish rather than the forum for Scottish Gaelic. IME, not many people speak both.)
beMe wrote:I just wanted to shorten the sentence: "this is how I'm how I'm supposed to be"
Its part of a songtext which says: "but there is nothing wrong with me/ this is how I'm supposed to be/ in the land of make belive/ thai don't belive in me"
I don't know whether this helps you...

It does. I can't really think of a snappy way to say that in Irish. Maybe "mar atá mé ceaptha a bheith" which is something like "as I am meant to be".
this is how I'm supposed to be
