He was just writing the phonetic I'd say, maybe he can speak Irish but can't spell?

It looks strange.
In understand it as "That (thing) loves you". There must be a mistake somewhere, because it is not a "normal" Irish sentence.

Hmm...I was at a concert of an Irish Band, someone has a Poster with the sentence "Tá grá sin ort a Rea" ("Rea" is a name).
I´m curious what this means. I know "Tá grá agam ort" (or something) means I LOVE YOU...right?
the word SIN is strange...i mean if it means "that" the sentence is...well...strange :wink:

and what is the meaning of ORT? I cant find good dictionaries...

The literal meaning of ''ort'' means ''on you''.

Tá grá sin ort

Literally:
Tá = is (verb "to be", present tense)
grá = love (masculine noun)
sin = that (demonstrative pronoun)
ort = on-you

It is a bit strange alright - I see it as "that love is on you" (like one type of love as opposed to another) - something like "you are loved in that way"

Hi everyone, I'm new here! I'm from Ireland, studied Irish in school and was quite good at it, but now I'm in my first year of university studying French and Spanish, and I find I'm losing my Irish!

Today someone asked me how to say 'I told them the story'. I couldn't think of how to say 'them' in this context at all! :oops:

Does anyone have any idea? Thanks!

dóibh perhaps or some other form of a prepositional pronoun *shrug* might depend on the verb I'd think.

Little King is 'rí beag'

But a more archaic form of it would be "Ríán" I guess (which looks a bit more like Ryan)

If it's for a tattoo, I'd advise you to get more confirmation of this.
