Eskimo-Aleut Study Group

Postby vijayjohn » 2018-10-29, 5:21

Hi, everyone! Since a bunch of us have been talking about studying various languages from the Eskimo-Aleut family, and no one seems to have any objections to talking about it here, I've decided to create this thread. :)

Księżycowy specified our first assignment for Aleut, so I tried to complete it or at least go through all of the audio files and what was written along with them. I haven't done any exercises for the first lesson, though.

Aleut Group (Started 10/25/18)

Material(s):
  • Pribilof Anĝaĝigan Tuningin by Berge, et al.
  • Unangan Language Course by Berge, et al. (Which is equivalent to the first 5 lessons in the above textbook)

Assignments: (Dating format: month/day/year)
  • Lesson 1 Sections 3 & 4 (Cultural Notes and Grammar). Due 11/11/18
  • Lesson 1 Sections 1 & 2 (Vocabulary and Pronunciation). Due 11/04/18

Damn it, Vijay! I was going to create this thread today!

Well, since it's already here, I'll start posting the assignments in your post. (Unless you want the honor. :P )

I didn't get around to the assignment for Aleut, so I think we'll extend it into this week. That ok with you, Vijay?

Don't quiz me on the vocab, but I went through it all. (In at the last minute. :P )

Do you want to move on yet, Vijay?

Yeah, let's move on! I didn't memorize the vocab or whatever, either. :P (I remember "aang aang," though ).

Ohh, I just realized I had accidentally gone ahead and gone through the entire first lesson last week. Lol.

Ok, we'll do the cultural notes and grammar sections for this week. Sound ok to you?

Yep! (In other words, I don't have to do anything for next week, either. But hey, more time for me to get caught up with some of these other languages, I guess!).

How's Aleut going, księżycowy?

Also, how's everyone else doing with the Eskimo-Aleut languages they were (thinking of?) studying?

Hey Vijay, is it ok if we put this on hold to focus on Cayuga?

Aww :( Well...okay. :P

Maybe I'll compensate for it by following Massimiliano's thread more closely. :D

Okay, but I was hoping to do a West coast language for a change, and I'm not sure I'll be able to wait. I might be able to, though. We'll see. :D

Well, nothing is stopping you from getting a head start. I'm not saying we need to start at the same time, nessicarily.
