I actually forgot, but I'm not too worried about it. :P I'll get caught up easily enough.

Since I need to start actually paying attention now, how about doing 'Syllables' and the first three subsections under 'Accent Placement and Vowel Length'?

Sure, let's do that!

It's weird how I keep having to click on "Prev" to go to the next lesson.

I can't really complain. At least their site has a design...

Can't say I've mastered the first few sections of the accent system, but I got through it. Ready to move on Vijay?

I managed to finish off that section! :) What, if anything, should we do for next week?

Great, now I'm behind......

But I think we'll move on anyway. For this week, how does finishing up the Spelling Manual sound?

How does doing Chapter 3 this week sound?

And I'm still a bit confused by the whispered vowels. :hmm:

I'm going to try to do that.

What confuses you about them? At the risk of repeating shit you already know: They're what linguists call devoiced vowels. They exist in Japanese, too, between voiceless consonants, but often sound (especially to foreigners) as if they're not really being pronounced (ever heard of the pronunciation of sukiyaki being described as "skiyaki"?).

I'm starting to piece it together. What has confused me the most is what to do with the consonant. I'm guessing it becomes devoiced.

And I'm willing to extend the due date if you want. On the plus side, there are no exercises.

Nothing. It's just that when you have a voiceless consonant followed a devoiced vowel followed by [h], it sounds like a voiceless aspirated consonant.
I'm guessing it becomes devoiced.

It's already devoiced (i.e. voiceless).
And I'm willing to extend the due date if you want. On the plus side, there are no exercises.

I already read it, actually. But didn't you drop out of this group?

Ok, nevermind. I thought I understood what was going on, but I guess not.....

I'm considering that, provided I can narrow my major languages down to two (see your inbox), I might keep going with either Cayuga or Old English on the side.
