So, there won't be class tonight (or next week), so what do you want to work on this week, Vijay-sensei?

Hmm...maybe the Pearl White lessons? (I'm a little tempted to throw in a little bit of the supplementary lessons, too, but I feel like I might be in over my head if I do that :hmm:).

I think I'd like to get some practice in with the things we were doing in class, so let's play out a dialogue or something. (Feel free to use the vocabulary in the Community class PDF. It's everything we've covered so far.)

Hell, lets get to it.

Is there any important detail I'm missing that'd made chose to dabble between Mohawk and Cayuga?

(Also I was under the impression that the languages not from the Confederacy were a bit unattested except Cherokee, but maybe that isn't true because now I realize I have grammars of those in my hard drive :para: )

(my "problem" is, between this and Algonquian and Inuit and Navajo&Na-Dené and Mayan and Nahuatl I just don't know what to do  )

Ok, great! Would you like to learn some Seneca, or did you have another Iroquoian language in mind?

And from my experience, a few of the non-confederate languages do have grammars, but resources for those languages are even more scare then the languages of the Confederacy.

And yes, Cherokee is pretty well documented. (In fact, I keep meaning to pick up the reference grammar from Amazon. :P )

Actually, where as I'd like to still do this, I do think it's a bit unreasonable for us to converse in a fast enough way to make this workable, so let's just trade off writing up dialogues/stories and have the other person translate. :P

A: Sgë:nö’. Dë’ëh ni:s šya:söh?
B: Sgë:nö’. Terry ni:’ gya:söh.
A: Jerry ni:s šya:söh?
B: Hë’ëh, Jerry ni:' de'gya;söh! Terry ni:’ gya:söh!
A: Tom ni:’ gya:söh. Sadögweta’?
B: Gadögweta’. I:s koh? (i:s = ni:s)
A: De’gadögweta’. Aknö’ë:gö’s.

Probably Mohawk or Cayuga I guess.

(why am I so afraid to dabble on anything anyway? It's not like I'm committing to anything! man am I silly)

While we're at it, is there something you'd recommend me to look up about general Iroquoian culture? Like, music, craft, history, religion and mythology (this particulary I like), that stuff is always great to have right next the resources about languages. (I ask you because you have the Iroquoian bug... )

Honestly, aside from the collection of traditional stories in Mohawk I have, I can't think of anything much else that I'd recommend.

I really haven't given much time to studying those aspects of Iroquois culture, oddly enough. Mostly just the languages.

EDIT: And although I fully intend to focus on Seneca, I'm down for trying to learn some Mohawk or Cayuga as well. :P

Do you have resources for either, Lur?

For Mohawk I have the Teaching Grammar by Deering/Delisle, from 1976, but not the audio, and a grammar by Bonvillain, and another grammar by Alice Woodward Hopkins. For Cayuga I don't have anything.

I also have the teaching grammar for Mohawk. And guess what? Not only do I have it in updated orthography, but I also have the audio! I'd be up for going through it with you.

I could also upload the Cayuga Teaching Grammar, if you'd prefer to learn Cayuga. I also have the audio for it.

I was saying Mohawk but I really have no reason to choose one or the other!
