Maybe it's better to reset the poll or start a new one? 'Cause right now the votes don't reflect the options at all... :para:

And so noöne can call foul play:

I'll leave this poll up for about another month, and after that I'll compile all that data and make a determination as far as keeping the forum the way it is or splitting things.

I honestly thought it would automatically reset when I changed things. I'd be more than happy to reset it, if I can figure out how.

Good question. I thought it was possible... :hmm:

Anyway, you can simply delete the poll and then create a new one...

Ok, it's been reset. I deleted the poll and put it back up.
I'll run it for 30 days.

I'd ask that once again, people contextualize their vote with at least a few words. Unless of course they are the same as you've already expressed in this thread, in which case simply indicate that.

EDIT: Yeah I couldn't find that option, just the option to delete it.

And my screenshot will still help with compiling the data at the end of the month.

I kinda wish that the polls would tell the creator who voted, since noöne is saying anything at this point. :P

But so far, I see two options to go with:

There was the majority from the last poll that said no, they don't want this subforum split up. From opinions shared, the main concern was in activity level in regard to the split off forums. This hasn't been lost on me.

The other option, which seems to be the majority of people who actually use this subforum, is that they are ok with a split, and some feel that it could make these languages more visible, and potentially more active. Also, some say that interest*, rather than activity should be the measure. I happen to agree with this, but that doesn't mean I won't weigh all the options.

This will be a hard choice. :hmm:

Whatever the case, 5 days left to vote! :)

*By this I mean that someone is actively studying [whatever] language(s) and using the applicable subforum. I can't speak for anyone else though.

Sorry, I forgot to vote (again, I think :para:) until now.

I still think it would make sense to make separate forums for at least Muskogean and Yuman as well, given that we have one member who has expressed interest in both. I myself would be pretty interested in Muskogean since one of the closest reservations to where I live is the Alabama-Coushatta one. Actually, come to think of it, I kind of know a tiny bit of Havasupai from a song in a book of mine, and Havasupai is also a Yuman language, plus I could see myself studying one or more of these languages. I also know a song in Paipai, which is also Yuman.

Just so we are both on the same page, you are in favor of a split as proposed, with some additional splits, right?

I could potentially see a Muskogean subforum. In fact I'm interested in Creek and Choctaw myself.

I think the others are a hard sell.

What I think I would like to try here is a trial run.

Instead of assuming that a split would negatively or positivity impact the forum, why don't we try it for a period of time and see what happens? Granted, noöne wants it to negatively impact the forum, but I think it's worth a shot regardless of the risks.

I propose we split the forum for a few months (I don't think one month will be long enough, I'm thinking 3) as proposed (with the addition of Muskogean) and assess things at the end of that period of time.

Of course we'll have to decide what we're assessing and how we're assessing them.

What does everyone else think?

And, if the change drastically impacts the forum negatively, we can stop eariler.

Wouldn't that create even more work for the mods? I don't think they'll agree to a split if it doesn't have much support atm.

As I said before, I'm personally in favor of doing whatever the majority wants when it comes to new forums / forum splitting / merging.

In this particular case, we've had two polls and both times "No" had more votes...

Thanks, Luís. I get that.

For the first poll, I agree that "no" won.

For this current poll, we have a tie between "yes" and "no." As the comments make clear, Vijay is in favor of the split (a "yes" vote), but wanted additional families to be split off.

I'm wondering if I should create one last poll, considering I shifted my focus away from a permanent solution to to more of a trial run?

Personally I don't want to drag this out much longer, but I think it might be a good thing. What does everyone else think?

I'm honestly not sure at this point myself.

I think, at least for now, I may let this go.
