Amerindian languages?

Postby Massimiliano B » 2013-10-08, 20:00

Do you think that the language classification made by Greenberg is valid? He thinks that all the languages of the Americas, except the Na-Dene and the Eskimo-Aleut languages, fall within a single group, that he calls Amerind. What do you think about that?

I think Amerind is too far back to reconstruct with any real degree of certainty given the limits of our current methods. 4000 years before the earliest written attestations and you're pretty much in the realm of pure speculation.
