I will try...

[flag]kuf[/flag] (Montana Salish)

t spisc̓é u tam ácc̓x̣n ɫu snʔacc̓x̣tn
Yesterday I didn't watch television.

tam čn epɫ snʔacc̓x̣tn l̓ incitxʷ
I haven't a television in my home!

ɫaqʷlwi ácc̓x̣n ɫu snʔacc̓x̣tn l̓ inqeneʔ citxʷs
Sometimes I watch television in my grandmother's home.

ec̓ščén ɫu ʔacx̣núxʷ yetɫx̣ʷá́sq̓t ? or ec̓ščnasq̓ti ?
How is the weather like today?

My keyboard writes x̣ and x̣ʷ
The little dots should be under the letter x :x

Probably my sentences are full of mistakes :( . Is there a native speaker who can correct it - not only my Montana Salish, but also my English? :)

Oh darn, some used this thread again. I was hoping to be functional in a NAIL before that, but I'm not trying to discourage anyone from using it. Anyhow . . . :P

I obviously can't correct you Salish, Massimiliano, but I can help you with your English.
The only English I would correct is the last question. I'd say it as either "How is the weather today?" or "What is the weather like today?" (basically you don't need the "like" in there).
Oh, and I get the dot under the x's. Maybe it's your browser or something?

Eskimo-Aleut Multilingual Thread

Postby księżycowy » 2012-05-12, 21:56

Just following suit with the NAIL and CSAIL forums. Please put English in spoilers or modified font unless you are talking/responding to someone you know speaks/studies the language you are using. Other then that, have fun!

(And yes, I know there are Yup'ik, Aleut, and Inuktitut/Inupiaq versions of the "Person Below Me" game here. I'll be keeping them, so no worries.)

Hello! I am called Paweł. I am from Rochester. How are you?

Don't ask me to parse any of that! My Aleut is quite rusty (if even existant anymore :P ). Thank the gods my textbook is like a phrasebook, or I wouldn't have been able to do that.

[flag]kl[/flag] Inuugujoq, kutta! Ajunngilanga. Qanoq ippit?

Hello! I'm well, thanks. How are you?

I'm a little jealous that Aleut looks a bit less agglutinative; at least you don't have to tack suffixes on your name, but not to say I dislike the agglutination, that's part of the fun.

I find it hard to find an Eskimo Aleut language I don't like! And as for your comment, I'm guessing it's just the way the verbs function in Aleut. Aleut is a bit different then the other Eskimo languages.

I think I did that right. :para:
And Greenlandic does look cool. I still like Aleut the best though.
I'm also guessing you're going to make me keep my Aleut books out. :P

What are you doing?

I've just never looked at a language before which might have a word for 'to pretend to be a priest'. I might have messed up the word order. 50/50 chance, eh. Or not.
